Purpose

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Engineering to lead a high-performing team responsible for delivering modern communication and campaign orchestration capabilities at enterprise scale. This role will oversee two critical platforms within Scotiabank’s Communication Domain:

  1. Enterprise Journey & Orchestration Platform
    An in-house, cloud-native platform built on Node.js, responsible for orchestrating messages, offers, and campaigns across multiple channels such as mobile banking, web banking, ABM, and branch systems. This layer acts as the central decisioning and orchestration layer enabling personalized, contextual customer interactions.
  2. Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO)
    A strategic, enterprise marketing and messaging platform used to deliver email, SMS, and mobile app push notifications for both marketing and transactional messaging use cases. AJO enables journey-based engagement while integrating with downstream channels and internal platforms.

As a senior engineering leader, you’ll drive technology strategy, execution, and delivery across these platforms, ensuring resilience, scalability, cost optimization, and compliance. You’ll partner closely with product, marketing, and enterprise technology teams to shape the technical roadmap and deliver impactful solutions that enhance customer engagement and trust.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, delivery leads, and business analysts responsible for in-house comm platform and Adobe Journey Optimizer.
  • Drive the evolution of a cloud-native, API-first orchestration platform, supporting real-time and batch-based customer journeys and offers.
  • Own the technical integration between Adobe Journey Optimizer, and downstream delivery channels, ensuring reliable and secure message execution.
  • Oversee platform modernization initiatives including architecture evolution, performance optimization, scalability, and operational resilience.
  • Champion engineering best practices such as CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, and secure-by-design development.
  • Ensure platforms meet high availability, performance, security, and compliance standards, while managing cost and platform efficiency.
  • Partner with marketing, digital, compliance, and enterprise teams to enable consistent, auditable, and compliant customer communications.
  • Lead vendor and platform governance for Adobe solutions, including roadmap alignment, upgrades, and feature adoption.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and technical excellence within the engineering organization.

 

What You'll Bring:

  • 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 3+ years in senior leadership roles.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating enterprise-scale communication, messaging, or campaign platforms.
  • Strong understanding of modern architecture patterns, including microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud-native design.
  • Hands-on experience with Node.js-based platforms, integration architectures, and message orchestration solutions.
  • Experience working with marketing technology platforms (e.g., Adobe Journey Optimizer or similar journey orchestration tools).
  • Solid understanding of transactional vs. marketing messaging, customer journeys, and personalization at scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in agile, DevOps-driven environments while delivering outcomes aligned to business objectives.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to partner across marketing, digital channels, compliance, and enterprise technology.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Prior experience in Banking or Financial Services is a strong asset.

 

Working Conditions

Work in a standard office-based environments located in Scarborough and Downtown Toronto; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. No external travel required.
