The Director, Payroll Transformation leads the design, implementation, and modernization of enterprise payroll systems and processes across the organization. This role is accountable for delivering large-scale payroll transformation initiatives, with a focus on SAP HCM and/or SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll, ensuring system accuracy, operational continuity, and alignment across Human Resources, Technology, and Finance.

As a key leader within the transformation program, this role provides oversight and direction across all phases of payroll system delivery, including design, configuration, testing, deployment, and post-go-live stabilization. The Director will ensure payroll solutions are scalable, compliant, and aligned with enterprise standards, while supporting a seamless employee experience.

A core aspect of this role is to partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to align business requirements with system capabilities, manage complex integrations across HRIS, finance, time, and third-party platforms, and ensure the successful execution of payroll transformation objectives.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Lead end-to-end payroll transformation initiatives, including solution design, system configuration, testing, deployment, and stabilization activities.
  • Drive payroll testing and validation efforts, including user acceptance testing (UAT), parallel payroll runs, reconciliation, and issue resolution to ensure system accuracy and readiness.
  • Oversee system integration across HR, Finance, time, and third-party platforms to enable seamless data flow and end-to-end payroll processing.
  • Partner with HR, Technology, Finance, and external vendors to align system requirements, manage dependencies, and deliver transformation outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, audit, and governance requirements related to payroll processing, data integrity, and financial reporting.
  • Lead cross-functional workstreams and collaborate with program stakeholders to ensure delivery against timelines, scope, and quality expectations.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance payroll processes, systems, and overall operational efficiency.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across stakeholders, fostering alignment, accountability, and effective communication throughout the transformation lifecycle.
  • Create an environment that promotes effective and efficient operations, ensuring alignment with Scotiabank’s Values and Code of Conduct, and supporting strong governance and control practices.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business, Technology, or a related field; relevant SAP or payroll certifications are considered an asset.
  • Progressive experience in payroll transformation, HR technology implementation, or enterprise system delivery within complex, large-scale environments.
  • Strong understanding of SAP HCM Payroll and/or SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll, including system configuration, testing methodologies, and payroll operations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting end-to-end payroll implementation, including design, UAT, parallel runs, and post-go-live stabilization.
  • Experience working across HR, Technology, Finance, and vendor partners, with the ability to translate business requirements into system functionality.
  • Strong project and program management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver within tight timelines.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
  • High attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy, data integrity, and risk mitigation within payroll environments.
  • Ability to operate effectively within regulated environments, with familiarity in governance, compliance, and audit standards.
  • Strong leadership capability with a focus on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
