Senior Legal Advisor

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you collaborates across the business as a key player in achieving the company’s strategic objectives. The role carries a high degree of accountability and involves delivering timely and practical legal services, including advising the company on its legal obligations, identifying legal risks and proposing mitigation measures, as well as negotiating complex terms and conditions to protect the company’s interests. A results-oriented approach is expected when advising senior stakeholders, along with the ability to act as a valued facilitator for a growing and dynamic business.

More specifically, you will:

  • Prepare and negotiate commercial agreements across functional areas, utilizing outstanding analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.

  • Quickly learn and apply technical skills to a wide range of business initiatives.

  • Monitor risks, escalate issues, and propose action plans or solutions.

  • Provide legal risk assessments and assist in the preparation of bids and proposal packages.

  • Develop, draft, and update legal templates and standard operating procedures, and recommend process improvements for the Legal Department.

  • Guide and support the contract management and supply chain teams to ensure appropriate flow-down of terms and conditions to subcontractors.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel, as appropriate, to support business opportunities while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, industry standards, and internal policies.

  • Provide timely and practical legal advice on a wide range of business initiatives, including government contracting, procurement, construction, regulatory affairs, sales and marketing, and competition law.

  • Respond to access-to-information requests and governmental filings and requirements as they arise.

  • Deliver legal and compliance training to colleagues across internal departments.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.).

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience practising commercial law in a law firm, government agency, or corporate environment.

  • Membership in good standing with a Canadian bar.
