Stantec is currently seeking a Junior Environmental Technologist to join our Hazmat and Indoor Air Quality team in British Columbia. This is a great opportunity for an early-level professional who wants hands-on field experience, exposure to a variety of occupational and health and safety-related projects, and the chance to grow within a respected, multidisciplinary firm.
Responsibilities
As part of the Hazmat and Indoor Air Quality team, your work will include a diverse mix of field and office responsibilities, such as:
Understanding the application of occupational health and safety principles and regulations, especially as they relate to industrial hygiene and hazardous materials
Planning and supporting hazardous materials surveys and assessments in a variety of environments
Collecting samples for asbestos, metals (e.g. lead), PCBs, microbials, and other hazardous substances
Estimating quantities of hazardous materials for the purposes of abatement project planning.
Conducting hazardous materials condition assessments.
Conducting hazardous material abatement/remediation inspections and air monitoring
Conducting indoor air quality assessments and testing
Conducting industrial hygiene assessments and testing
Assisting with the operation and calibration of air quality testing equipment
Contributing to the development of detailed technical reports, hazardous materials management plans, safe work procedures, abatement specifications, and exposure control plans
Assisting with the preparation of proposals for the above-noted types of projects
Collaborating with project teams to meet schedules and client expectations
Evening and weekend work as required
Frequent travel within Canada (primarily Western and Northern Canada) and potentially the U.S. as required
Qualifications
Post-secondary training, course work, diploma or degree pertaining to environmental technology or sciences, building sciences, occupational health and safety and/or occupational/industrial hygiene
1–2 years of relevant field or technical experience
A valid WorkSafeBC Level S Asbestos Certificate would be an asset
General knowledge of buildings, building systems and building construction
Experience or knowledge pertaining to occupational/industrial hygiene, occupational health & safety regulations and/or the hazardous materials abatement industry would be an asset
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including proficient MS Office skills
Strong note-taking skills and attention to detail
Ability to work on your own as well as in a team environment is crucial
Willingness to work out of town for up to 50% of the time
Valid driver’s license and vehicle is required
Ability to obtain mandatory federal government “Reliability Status” security clearance and RCMP Facility Access Level 2 security clearance
Commitment to health, safety, security and environmental responsibility
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time, as well as working in the field. Fieldwork may include remote work and exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$51,200.00 - $71,700.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
