Stantec is seeking a Construction Leader, that possesses field experience in the electrification sector in British Columbia Vancouver Area. This person will oversee construction management activities on a MSA that Stantec is executing services on across British Columbia as their primary function. With the growing electrification market at Stantec and across North America, this individual overtime will be supporting Stantec pursuits and operational activities in substations, power generation, and transmission projects across Stantec’s Energy sectors.

After being onboarded, this person may have the opportunity to work on more than one site, collaborating with teams, and providing oversight of a construction contractor/s execution of work.

Most of your time is expected to be on site, however occasionally you may be required to visit the Stantec offices. Qualified candidates will have relevant field experience and have worked on projects that have small and large scopes on critical infrastructure, including significant outages and tie ins.

This is a leadership role, including daily interaction with the client, the Stantec team, workers, the general contractors, and subcontractors. Work schedules will be project-dependent and determined closer to assignment. We are seeking candidates that reside in Vancouver or surrounding area and / or are willing to travel to remote site locations and the PMO offices.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide preconstruction services, developing procedures, tools and practices, and reviewing contract documents for preparation and implementation of construction phase construction management services

  • Provide detailed constructability reports to support cost reduction and safe work construction practices throughout design.

  • Develop pre-construction planning, site services, and sequencing plans prior to construction.

  • Be proficient in developing Construction Management Plans.

  • Be proficient and knowledgeable in Commissioning Plans for both High Voltage Electrical and Protection and Controls.

  • Be proficient in developing Outage Staging Plans.

  • Support procurement in the development & evaluations of all required contractor RFPs

  • Review of General Contractors’ Construction Execution Plan and provide risk and opportunity items.

  • Coordinate and communicate with General Contractor as required.

  • Oversee safety management plans to achieve a safe working site.

  • Oversee and perform day-to-day construction management efforts to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule.

  • Ensure contractor compliance with plans and specifications.

  • Act as the primary interface between client, contractor, oversight representatives, regulatory agencies, utility stakeholders, etc.

  • Monitor progress and delays of contractor’s project schedule.

  • Manage a team on onsite inspectors within all construction disciplines.

  • Review daily inspection reports for completeness and accuracy and review material test reports for compliance with specifications.

  • Coordination of document controls and record keeping.

  • Review plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings, change orders and pay applications (QA/QC)

  • Coordination and efficiencies in developing of project outage integration plans with multiple stakeholders (outage staging plans)

  • Understand how to manage Testing, Commissioning, and Start Up requirements.

  • Manage the post-construction phase, preparing and submitting final deliverables, reviewing final pay requests and punch lists, recommending final completion, tracking of warranties, and preparation of final invoicing

  • Understand the of responsibilities of prime contracting responsibilities.

  • Be familiar with BC Safework regulations.

Your Capabilities & Experience

  • Working in and executing oversight of construction in greenfield as well a live work scenario associated with substations.

  • Experience executing site outages and integrating with multiple stake holders

  • Experience in executing all project disciplines including Civil, Structural, Equipment, Piping, Electrical, Protection & Controls, Outages, and Lock Out Tag Out Procedures

  • Experience with working as a client resource and overseeing General Contractors

  • Experience with safety procedures on a live generation station and/or high voltage substation

  • Experience managing Quality Control, Assurance, and Inspection Services

  • Experience managing contractors schedule, project controls and contractor’s payment release

  • Experience in executing project testing, commissioning, and start-up activities

  • Exhibit good communication and presentation skills

Education and Credentials

  • Minimum of 15 years of Construction Management Experience with Brownfield/Live Generation or similar projects

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in one of Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited institution considered an asset

  • Construction Management Certification considered an asset

  • Certification of the Construction Safety Training System (CSTS)

  • Fall Protection Certification considered and asset

  • First Aid/CPR

  • Energy Isolation Certification

  • Excavation and Trenching Safety Certification considered and asset

Location

  • Preference given to local candidates in the Vancouver and surrounding area

Pay Range:

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$161,100.00 - $249,700.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
