THE ROLE

Position: Dispatch Supervisor 
Competition Number: CNS 2026-05-19
Location: Commissionaires Nova Scotia Head Office (229 Damascus Rd, Bedford NS)
Reports to: Atlantic Operations Centre Manager
Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 hour shifts based on a rotating schedule (occasional flexibility required)

The Dispatch Supervisor leadership role is ideally suited to an individual with previous dispatching experience who has worked in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment. An ability to match client demand to the available existing workforce, and to communicate concisely the detail of each assignment is vital to the success of the operations centre. 

 

CNS is seeking an independent and attentive leader who will commit to ensuring that the dispatch team fulfills and satisfies the staffing needs of our various clients. Duties and Responsibilities:

While duties vary by assignment, the responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising and designating the dispatch of appropriate personnel to satisfy client’s specific workforce requirements
  • Coordinating the specific needs of various clients through active engagement to ascertain the full scope of fluid work demands
  • Ensuring the dispatch of appropriately skilled, and capable staff on a timely basis
  • Supervising the communication between CNS employees, and clients through telephone and digital means (email & text messages) to effectively manage workforce needs for CNS short- and long-term contracts, NMSO sites, and new client requirements
  • Collaboratively liaise with principal stakeholders/management to strategize effective problem-solving solutions in real time
  • Supervising the electronic documentation of any irregularities related to personnel scheduling
  • Maintaining clear and complete shift notes, and communicating these to both management and incoming dispatchers to ensure continuity of operations during shift changes

 

 

WHO WE’RE SEEKING

 

Eligibility Requirements

 

Candidates must:

  • Be aged 19 or older
  • Be a Permanent Resident of Canada or Canadian Citizen
  • Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted
  • Be able to provide fingerprints and complete a criminal record check
  • Be eligible to apply for Government of Canada personnel security screening
  • Hold a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license, or access to reliable transportation to/from work
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English (the ability to work in both official languages would be considered an asset)

 

Qualifications and Skills
The selected candidate will be a professional and detail driven individual with a strong work ethic and “Can Do” attitude.

 

Key qualifications and skills to be successful include, but are not limited to:

  • Minimum six (6) months experience working as a Commissionaire, OR equivalent knowledge of the security industry is preferred
  • Leadership experience will be considered an asset
  • Previous experience working in a dispatch or a busy operations centre environment
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Clear and effective communicator via both phone and email, complemented by active listening
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Ability to multi-task while staying organized
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of quality while operating under minimal supervision
  • Ability to read, interpret and adhere to contractual documents and instructions
  • Possess a high level of comfort and skill operating modern technology in an office environment
  • Data entry skills: minimum 35 words per minute keyboarding
  • Ability to learn quickly, and be highly adaptable to evolving business requirements
  • Ability to maintain a high level of deadline awareness
  • Ability to be a consummate professional, consistently remaining calm and respectful during periods of high demand, or escalation
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to use sound judgement and common sense in decision making
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to handle sensitive information with discretion
