Position Summary

 

The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our plastics recycling facility. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and improving a wide range of recycling and material handling equipment, including shredders, grinders, conveyors, sorting systems, pumps, hydraulic equipment, and processing machinery.

 

This role is best suited for a hands-on maintenance professional with strong mechanical troubleshooting abilities who enjoys working in a fast-paced industrial environment. While licensed Millwrights (433A) are strongly preferred, we are also open to experienced late-term apprentices or mechanically strong unlicensed candidates with relevant industrial maintenance experience.

 

As a Maintenance Technician at Blue Mountain Plastics Recycling, you will be a key contributor to minimizing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems throughout the recycling facility
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on recycling and processing equipment
  • Repair and maintain conveyors, shredders, grinders, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, and other industrial equipment
  • Diagnose equipment failures and complete root cause troubleshooting to minimize downtime
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Install, dismantle, align, and modify equipment as required
  • Fabricate or modify simple parts and components when needed
  • Participate in equipment upgrades, plant improvement projects, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Complete maintenance work orders and documentation accurately within the CMMS system
  • Follow all Health & Safety policies, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and safe work practices
  • Support production teams by responding quickly and effectively to equipment issues

 

 

Education / Skills / Experience

  • 433A Industrial Millwright certification strongly preferred
  • Open to late-term Millwright apprentices or experienced unlicensed maintenance mechanics with strong industrial experience
  • 3+ years of maintenance experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Experience working within recycling, plastics, heavy industrial, packaging, aggregates, automotive, or similar manufacturing environments considered an asset
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair abilities
  • Experience with conveyors, hydraulic systems, pumps, motors, bearings, gearboxes, and industrial processing equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and manuals
  • Experience using preventative maintenance or CMMS software is an asset
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety practices and Lockout/Tagout procedures
  • Self-motivated team player with strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on attitude

 

 

Working Environment & Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, crouching, kneeling, bending, and lifting
  • Working at heights and in confined spaces may occasionally be required
  • Industrial recycling environment with exposure to dust, noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures
  • Ability to safely lift and carry materials and tools as required
  • PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, hard hats, and respiratory protection may be required in certain areas
  • Must be comfortable working around industrial recycling and processing equipment in an active production environment

 

 

Pay Rate: $37-44/hr – depending on certification and experience
