JOB SUMMARY

Signs & Pavement Markings is responsible for managing the design, installation, modification, maintenance and removal of traffic signs, specialty signs, and pavement markings. 

You are responsible for leading a crew in the installation of transverse pavement markings on roadways and sidewalks within the City of Ottawa, and maintaining tools and equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12

Minimum of 13 months of experience working on a road painting crew that may include cone truck driver or in pavement markings environment

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated

KNOWLEDGE

  • Ontario Traffic Manuals and Highway Traffic Act of Ontario
  • WHMIS
  • City of Ottawa standards and procedures for installing a range of road and other designated markings on city streets, intersections, sidewalks, bike paths, etc. 
  • City of Ottawa traffic by-laws
  • Operations of a ½ ton pick-up truck, mobile paint machine, hatching machine, erasing machine; and procedures and processes for maintaining and repairing, replacing paint guns, hoses, wooden hatching templates, etc.
  • Methods, techniques and standards for preparing work sites, including removing/erasing surface markings, coning off work-site, installing signs, etc.  prior to the start of work
  • Road and intersection network and pavement marking system within the City of Ottawa
  • Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance 
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word,  Excel, Outlook…)
  • Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
  • Driver’s License Requirement:  A valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated  
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
