Calian is proud to continue a long-standing contractual relationship with the Department of National Defence (DND) to provide healthcare services to the Canadian Armed Forces. Through the Health Care Provider Contract, Calian employs health care professionals across Canada who are integral to supporting the health and wellbeing of our military members.

Position Overview

Calian is seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Assistant for the laboratory clinic located at CFB Esquimalt.

Clinic hours are Monday to Friday starting 7am to 3pm.

Responsibilities

The required tasks for this occupational group include the following:

  • Perform venipuncture on adult patients.
  • Collect and process specimens while maintaining sample integrity and providing patient instructions.
  • Conduct basic lab tests (e.g., urinalysis, pregnancy tests).
  • Enter patient and specimen data into lab systems and logs.
  • Investigate and correct requisition errors; label, centrifuge, and separate samples.
  • Handle body fluid measurements and 24-hour urine collections for external testing.
  • Package and label specimens per TDG regulations; prepare waybills and maintain compliance records.

Qualifications

All Medical Laboratory Assistant must, as a minimum, possess:

  • Diploma from a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program
  • Certificate of registration as a Medical Laboratory Assistant from the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) or equivalent provincial or territorial organization in the province or territory of practice
  • Two years of experience working in a clinical laboratory setting and performing phlebotomy
  • Certificate of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider or equivalent such as Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) Level C.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a Government of Canada Reliability Status security clearance

Compensation

$34 to $38/hr
