As a lifting engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out technical studies related to lifting and handling operations involving critical loads required to support production activities at Chantier Davie. This role is focused on the technical execution of lifting engineering mandates. The Lifting Engineer analyzes, designs, validates, and documents lifting and handling methods in close collaboration with production, planning, and engineering teams. The position directly contributes to operational safety, regulatory compliance, and the technical feasibility of lifting operations. More specifically you will :  

  • Integrate HSE requirements into all lifting-related analyses, recommendations, and technical deliverables. 
  • Identify hazards and risks associated with lifting operations and propose appropriate mitigation measures. 
  • Provide support to site teams during critical operations to ensure the safe implementation of approved lifting methods. 
  • Report any hazardous situation or non-compliance to the appropriate parties.
  • Develop lifting and turning plans and studies for ship components, blocks, or sections.
  • Determine and position lifting points, including local structural analysis of lifting structures areas and interfaces.
  • Define required rigging (slings, shackles, spreaders, and accessories) in accordance with applicable standards and best practices.
  • Assess the required capacity and configuration of lifting equipment (cranes, hoists, forklifts, and temporary systems).
  • Design or contribute to the design of temporary equipment and structures to facilitate the lifting, handling, or positioning of components.
  • Determine temporary supports required for sandblasting, painting, storage, or assembly of blocks and components.
  • Analyze handling and transportation scenarios for critical parts.
  • Prepare calculation notes, sketches, drawings, and technical documentation required for projects.
  • Participate in technical reviews and validation of lifting methods with stakeholders.
  • Review, revise, and approve deliverables produced by colleagues or subcontractors in accordance with established processes.
     

    QUALIFICATIONS :

     

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or eligible for membership.
  • Ability to authenticate engineering documents.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in lifting or heavy material handling operations.
  • Experience in heavy industrial environments or shipyards is considered an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of lifting, rigging, and material handling principles.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical behaviour and failure modes of metallic materials.
  • Proficiency with calculation, modelling, and technical drafting tools used in lifting engineering.
  • Strong technical rigour and attention to detail.
  • Sound professional judgment and strong sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
  • On-site presence required based on project needs.
  • Fluency in English is required for this position, as you will interact with English-speaking suppliers, stakeholders or clients.
  • Successful completion of the security screening process and obtainment of the required security clearance under the Federal Government’s Contract Security Program (minimum of five [5] years of residency in Canada, with no interruption of six [6] consecutive months).
