Are you excited about the incredible opportunity that cloud computing represents? Are you passionate about delivering high-quality services and ready to apply your experience at massive scale? Amazon Web Services' Cloud Storage, Amazon S3, is one of the largest distributed storage systems in the world. We host trillions of objects and serve hundreds of millions of requests per second and we're continuing to grow!
We are looking for a passionate Software Development Manager to lead a team responsible for the primary gateway to S3's underlying storage systems. This team builds and maintains the services that efficiently translate customer requests into optimized storage operations, ensuring data integrity, performance, and reliability at unprecedented scale. As the leader of this team, you will be tackling some of the hardest computer science problems in distributed systems, building solutions that can handle varying access patterns and high request volumes from our customers.
In this role, you will:
Lead a team of talented software engineers, fostering their growth and development while delivering critical components of S3's architecture
Drive the technical roadmap for systems that bridge S3's Object APIs with our storage infrastructure
Partner with other S3 teams to design and implement improvements to our data flow architecture
Ensure operational excellence through metrics, monitoring, and continuous improvement
Recruit and develop top engineering talent to build a diverse and high-performing team
Drive innovation in how we handle data assembly, transformation, and delivery at scale
You'll work closely with the Object API and Storage teams to continuously improve our systems and deliver exceptional customer experiences.
A successful candidate will feel strongly not only about building good software but about building great teams. The ideal candidate will be able to lead in resource-constrained and performance-sensitive areas, with relentlessly high standards. This role is technical: you'll be expected to contribute to architecture discussions while regularly taking part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises or technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues. A strong understanding of distributed systems and experience operating services at scale is a plus.
