Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an individual to coordinate the implementation of Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) program within the North America Infrastructure Business Operating Unit (BOU). The position will be based out of one of our larger offices in Canada West and will report to the North America Transportation Business Line (BL) HSSE Manager.

This is a full-time position, and work hours will reflect the requirements of the geography.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Apply practical knowledge and experience to independently solve complex HSSE problems related to areas within their operational control.

  • Work with the HSSE Manager to investigate, manage, and track incidents, identify effective preventative and corrective actions, support filing and data entry requirements, and develop and share lessons learned.

  • Identify and lead process improvements in alignment with business and/or HSSE strategic goals.

  • Provide coaching, advice, and support to business line leadership on HSSE as it pertains to the services provided by the business.

  • Support operations to effectively use Stantec’s HSSE systems including the HSSE program manual, OHS management system, safe work practices, incident management system, PowerApps risk management strategy forms, as well as local legislation.

  • Provide technical assistance to project teams with pre-job planning and hazard assessments for field activities and the integration of client or geographic HSSE requirements.

  • Conduct field assessments, planned job observations, worksite inspections, and auditing activities independently and with leadership (which may require overnight travel) in support of the BOU.

  • Deliver or support HSSE training as required and provide support on the continuous development and improvement of HSSE training.

  • Provide support to integrate Stantec’s HSSE management system with client systems where needed.

  • Assist business leadership, project teams and other FST partners in their response to project RFPs and RFQs.

  • Promote HSSE within the area of responsibility with the goal of continuous improvement of HSSE culture.

  • Help identify medical surveillance requirements based on anticipated project exposures.

Key Functions

  • Support BOU risk prevention and control activities.

  • Participate in HSSE activities with project team members and leadership.

  • Develop creative, topical, and relevant BOU HSSE communications.

  • Advise employees and leadership on current HSSE industry trends, client specific program requirements, regulatory requirements, Stantec HSSE processes and tools.

  • Engage with employees and leaders through field visits, networking, training, and seminars.

  • Coordinate best practice sharing within the business and HSSE teams.

  • Support leadership in the communication of HSSE topics.

  • Where applicable, work with leadership to implement corrective action plans to drive continuous improvement.

  • Provide support for Stantec’s subcontractor management program and support contractor prequalification assessments as per Stantec’s procedures when requested.

  • Preparation of HSSE statistical reports.

  • Assist project teams in the development of project specific safety plans and emergency response plans.

Capabilities and Credentials

  • CRSP certification will be considered an asset.

  • Experience in HSSE related to Infrastructure- transportation and community development design, engineering, construction inspection/administration, and survey is preferred, but not required.

  • Maintain required field HSSE courses to work in the relevant sectors.

  • Working knowledge of HSSE regulations in Canada.

  • Strong leadership skills and the capability to assess priorities and to work independently.

  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal, and organizational abilities.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Capable of delivering, preparing, and presenting to small and large groups (virtually or in person).

  • A willingness to work in a team atmosphere and with a minimal amount of supervision.

  • Able to create meaningful connections with people and influence colleagues outside of their area of operational control.

  • A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office tools. A demonstrated ability to use video/animation recording/editing software will be considered an asset.

  • The ability to safely navigate stairs, ladders, and uneven terrain, enter active construction sites, enter structures under construction, and wear specialized personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role.

  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field from recognized university preferred.

Pay Range:

• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$96,800.00 - $145,200.00 Annually

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$102,600.00 - $153,900.00 Annually

• $108,400.00 - $162,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
