Job Description:
There are two vacancies available - 1 temporary casual Support position (up to 24 hours per week) supporting our Men's Hockey program and 1 temporary casual Support position (up to 24 hours per week) supporting our Women's Hockey program starting August 2026 and ending December 2026 (possibility for contract renewal through 2027).
Applicants are asked to indicate in their cover letter whether they are applying to the Women’s Hockey program, the Men’s Hockey program, or both.
Time Commitment & Season Structure
Practices:
One (1) practice per week, 90 minutes in length
Held at Stronach Arena on the same night each week
Practices run throughout October, November, January, February, and March
Tryouts will take place during regular practice time beginning in late September
Competition Format:
No regular league play
Team participates in 3–4 tournaments during the season
Tournaments typically take place between November and March
Most tournaments involve full‑day commitments, generally spanning early morning to mid-evening
Some tournaments require team bus travel, while others are hosted locally
Championship competition, if qualified, may occur over multiple days with daytime and/or evening play
Fanshawe College is located in London, Ontario and competes in the Ontario Collegiate Recreation (OCR). The Fanshawe Falcons are a nationally recognized athletics program and brand with the goal of consistently providing championship experiences for our student-athletes.
Why This Role Is Important
Reporting to the Manager, Recreation and Fitness, and working closely with the Varsity Officer for Hockey, the Head Coach is committed to excellence in all areas and supporting the program to provincial prominence. The Head Coach is focused upon creating a positive team culture, student-athlete recruitment and retention, academic success, and the holistic development of student-athletes (character, leadership, community service and engagement). The role includes regular internal communication, coordination, and administrative support.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
The Head Coach – Hockey Program, will be responsible for performing the following roles and/or delivering the following outcomes:
Coaching duties consistent with the management of a varsity program
Recruitment and retention of outstanding student-athletes with strong character
Complete adherence and compliance with all Fanshawe College, OCR requirements, rules, policies, and procedures
Coordination of assistant coaches and team support personnel
Development and implementation of individual and team high-performance training plans that foster student-athlete development and team success
Tactical and technical preparation for games and practices
Team and individual goal setting and evaluation
Monitoring and promoting student-athlete academics
Assisting in the budgeting and scheduling process, along with other administrative duties relating to travel, accommodation, and meals
Communication with student-athletes, recruits, and other stakeholders
Mentor and support the positive and holistic development of student-athletes
Team fundraising, including alumni development
Support College recruitment and admissions events, processes and protocols
Participate in annual student-athlete orientation programs and professional development
Embrace the Falcons Athletics culture while promoting and supporting all Athletics Department initiatives including, but not limited to, marketing, fundraising and engagement programs
Demonstrate commitment to coaching professional development and Safe Sport
Engagement initiatives in local community leagues and associations
Represent Fanshawe Athletics at various meetings
Other duties as assigned
What You’ll Bring:
Post-secondary diploma; Bachelor’s degree preferred
Minimum 2 years of high‑performance hockey coaching experience, preferably at the college or university level
Head coaching experience is an asset
Proven record of coaching success at the post‑secondary level or secondary level
Outstanding integrity, passion and a commitment to overall excellence
Excellent communicator with strong coaching and technical hockey skills
Excellent leadership, organizational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills
Ability to build strong relationships and work in a team environment
Recruiting and/or other relevant training related to sport an asset
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Records Check is required for this position prior to the commencement of any duties
