This opportunity for Intermediate/Senior Field Technician is based operationally from our St. John’s. NL office. Actual project sites will include construction inspection and testing services for soils, concrete and or asphalt within 1 hour of the St. John’s city limits but could also require to project sites across the island portion of the province and Labrador. This opportunity would be for a contract term over the 2026 construction season, but could lead to other long-term opportunities depending on performance and project demands.

In this role, you will provide support for the successful execution of the project through conformance to project specific governance plans for H&S, Environmental Protection and Cultural Awareness which are developed through Stantec’s ISO requirements, corporate policies, solid project management objectives, and client requirements and standards. Your Key Responsibilities

In this role you will have the opportunity to work with our geotechnical engineers and other technicians on Stantec projects. Primary assignments would include working on construction phases of projects providing services to monitor and confirm compliance with project design requirements.

Other general duties consisting of both field and laboratory work including the following:

  • Mentoring, coaching and training of junior technical staff as required.

  • Primary field construction inspection / testing surfaces would include foundation / bearing soil reviews, fill placement and compaction, concrete placement and plastic properties testing, field asphalt placement monitoring, sampling and field testing. More specialized testing may be required depending on project specifications.

  • Coordination for and assistance with field and laboratory testing of soils/concrete/asphalt.

  • Other general field and office related duties.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Energetic team player with a commitment to superior client service.

  • Experience working with minimum supervision.

  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • A valid Driver's License for the province of Newfoundland & Labrador is required.

  • Ability and willingness to work on projects requiring rotational travel and away from home for periods of up to 3 weeks.

  • Willingness to work overtime as required.

Education and Experience

  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Eligibility to obtain Certified Engineering Technical in the province of NL would be considered an asset.

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience.

  • Experience with field supervision of geotechnical drilling and test pitting programs would be considered an asset.

  • Position will primarily be field based at construction sites.
