Your Opportunity

Our Markham office is currently seeking a Senior CADD Designer – (Aviation) to join our team, to provide drawing leadership on various aviation projects. The individual will be responsible for setting up and maintaining drawings for multi-disciplinary assignments supporting our Aviation teams.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Participating in the design and preparation of engineering drawings and visual displays

  • Lead the development of detailed 2D and 3D engineering drawings for aviation infrastructure projects, including civil grading, pavement design, airfield drainage, Airfield obstacle limitation surfaces (OLS) utilities, airfield lighting layouts, and terminal civil works

  • Perform 3D modelling, surface design, cross-section generation, quantity take-offs, and earthwork calculations using Civil

  • Establish and Prepare project-specific CADD and drawing standards and setup guidelines for multi-disciplinary projects

  • Establish drawing delivery and interface requirements in consultation with clients

  • Interpret engineering concepts, sketches, and calculations into accurate design drawings

  • Setup, manage and maintain project collaboration software (E.g. ProjectWise, ACC, etc.)

  • Communicate effectively in writing and speech with staff at all levels including outside consultants

  • Act as the primary CADD liaison on project teams, interfacing directly with project managers, engineers, environmental specialists, surveyors, sub-consultants & clients

  • Interface with clients and stakeholders regarding drawing standards and deliverables

  • Support multidisciplinary coordination (civil, electrical, structural, airfield lighting)

  • Collect and incorporate field survey data, geotechnical reports, and LiDAR/point cloud data into design models

  • Support field construction administration through RFI responses, site instructions, and as-built & record drawing compilation

  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior CADD staff

  • Support onboarding of new CADD staff and knowledge transfer activities

  • Support team development in software, standards, and best practices

  • Act as a subject matter expert for CADD within the aviation group

  • Provide ongoing support and direction for project CADD personnel

  • Auditing and enforcement of project CADD standards

  • Engineering calculations

  • Ensure compliance with standards (TP312, ICAO, provincial standards, client specific standards, etc.)

  • Organizing and maintaining a design and CADD digital file database for each project

  • Creates and enforces CADD Standards on a project-by-project basis

  • Support proposal preparation (graphics, exhibits, technical input)

  • Assist in developing project schedules and deliverables

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of workflows and digital delivery

  • Other related duties as assigned

  • Advanced knowledge in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required. MicroStation/OpenRoads & AviPLAN knowledge would be an asset

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) as well as good relationship building skills with respect to your interactions with team members, clients and contractors

  • Strong understanding of airfield geometry and grading as well as, drainage and utility design

  • Familiar with relevant Standards and details

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word and Excel is required

  • Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple projects, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines while working independently

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

  • Mentoring, coaching and training staff

  • Ability to provide direction and guidance to others

  • A strong work ethic with the desire to excel and to achieve

  • High attention to detail and quality

  • Problem-solving and proactive thinking

  • A self-starter who can work unsupervised

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Experience with GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS) for site analysis and base mapping

Education and Experience

  • Diploma from a well-organized institution in a related field

  • Minimum 10 years of CADD drafting/design experience in an engineering consulting environment

  • Minimum 3years of direct experience on aviation or airfield infrastructure projects (runways, taxiways, aprons, terminals, airside civil works)

  • Experience working on Ontario-based projects and standards

  • Member with The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians (OACETT)

Pay Range:

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$86,900.00 - $126,000.00 Annually
