As a Child Intervention Supervisor, you will support the alignment of casework practice by following the direction and working towards the goals outlined in Ministry of Children and Family Services business plan goals.

• Provide practice leadership and decision-making to ensure child safety and quality service delivery in accordance with the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act (CYFEA).
• Ensure consistent implementation of legislation, regulations, and Ministry policy and procedures.
• Provide consultation at key decision points within the Child Intervention Practice Framework.
• Support and oversee the implementation of practice and policy changes including workflow, policy updates and human resource management.
• Lead and oversee legal permanency planning, including timely permanency decisions, care planning, and court related processes.
• Assess staff strengths and developmental needs and align workload and caseload appropriately.
• Model and reinforce professional conduct, accountability, and compliance with legislation and policy.
• Deliver services that honour and respect Indigenous cultural identities, traditions, and histories, strengthening outcomes for Indigenous children and youth receiving care. 
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities, demonstrating knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and commitment to culturally safe practice.

Qualifications

Requirements:  Bachelor of Social Work or Social Work Diploma and 3 years related experience.

The successful candidate must be Delegated Category 7 under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act in Alberta and must have the related skills, abilities, knowledge and experience to be delegated. Additionally, there is an expectation for this position to provide on-call/afterhours services on a regular basis as part of their delegated duties under the CYFEA.

Equivalencies:

• Master of Social Work and 2 year related experience; OR
• Related university degree and 5 years related experience; OR
• Related diploma and 6 years related experience; OR
• Related certificate and 7 years related experience.

Related university degree can include: Bachelor of Child Studies/Child & Youth Care, BA Education, Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Human Services, BA/BSc Psychology, BA Sociology, Bachelor of Community Rehab, BSc. Family Studies/Human Ecology, BA Early Child Development, Bachelor of Indigenous Studies.

Related diploma can include: Addictions/Counselling Diploma, Child and Youth Care Diploma, Human Services Diploma and Criminal Justice Diploma.

Related Experience includes:  Case management and planning in a child intervention setting; crisis intervention and protection work; supporting foster and kinship care programs; family preservation and family support; counselling youth and families; knowledge of community connections and socially inclusive environments; as well as experience and understanding of Indigenous peoples, various cultures, community connections and social inclusive environments.

Assets:

• Sound understanding of child intervention legislation, policy, practice and workflow.
• Knowledge and ability to draw upon an Act Respecting First Nation, Metis and Inuit Children, Youth and Familes and how it relates to intervention practice
• Actively engage with First Nations and Metis communities, cultural traditions and practices, and awareness of protocols and customs
• Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with Indigenous communities and DFNA partners.
• Experience managing a caseload with minimal supervision.

Notes

Hours of Work:  Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week (full-time).  Working after-hours or outside of regular business hours may be required.

Currently recruiting to the following locations:  Grande Prairie, Cold Lake, Peace River, Slave Lake.

Role Requirements:

• This position will provide on-call/after-hours services on a regular basis as part of their delegated duties under the CYFEA. 
• Current or previously Delegated Category 7 under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act in Alberta.
• Preference will be given to candidates who have completed the Foundations, and Relationship and Culture pathways in the Ministry’s ICUF.  
• Travel will be required in this role; therefore, final candidates for this position will be asked to provide a current 5-year commercial driver’s abstract. Candidates may also be required to use their own vehicle when government fleet vehicles are not available. Appropriate insurance is required.
• Successful candidate will require a clear Intervention Record Check (IRC) + Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check (CRC VS) to be considered for the role.
• An academic check will be completed.

• As per the Health Professions Act, successful applicants must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) to be eligible for this position, if:
  • They have a degree in social work from any university in North America that is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) or the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); or they have graduated from an approved social work diploma program in Alberta.
  • They have, within the last five years, been a registered, certified, or licensed social worker in another province or with a member of the Association of Social Work Boards.
