Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an individual to support the Atlantic Region in implementing Stantec’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSSE) program. The position will be based in one of our major offices in New Brunswick, Moncton, Dartmouth, Quebec or Montreal and will report to the HSSE Manager – Ontario, Atlantic and Quebec.

This is a full-time position, and working hours will reflect the requirements of the geographic region.

Your Key Skills

  • Apply your practical knowledge and experience to independently resolve complex HSE issues related to our operational sectors.

  • Work closely with the HSSE Manager – Ontario, Atlantic and Quebec to investigate, manage, and track incidents, identify effective preventive and corrective actions, and develop and share lessons learned.

  • Identify and lead process improvements aligned with the company’s and/or HSE strategic objectives.

  • Support operations in effectively using Stantec’s HSE systems, including the HSE program manual, safe work practices, the incident management system, risk management strategy forms and applications, and applicable local legislation.

  • Deliver information sessions on Stantec’s HSE programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop creative and relevant HSE communications and support leadership in rolling out these communications.

  • Demonstrate an HSE presence with employees and leaders across the region’s offices through information sessions or follow-up meetings.

  • Facilitate incident follow-up with supervisors and employees and support incident investigations in collaboration with project managers and leadership.

  • Support the development and monitoring of HSE key performance indicators and collaborate with leadership to achieve annual objectives.

  • Act as liaison with Workers Compensation Board representatives regarding accident case management.

  • Collaborate with HSE resources from various offices, regions, countries, and business unit teams as needed.

  • Actively participate in Workplace Health and Safety Committee meetings for local offices and/or the region.

  • Support managers in following up on preventive and corrective actions through Stantec’s internal mechanisms and tools.

  • Act as lead in regional COR audits in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia,

  • Support offices in preparation for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 audits.

  • Coordinate and facilitate monthly meetings with office Health, Safety and Environment Coordinators.

  • Support the implementation of the internal office ergonomics program.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Practical knowledge of HSE regulations applicable in the Atlantic provinces.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with colleagues and collaborators.

  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to assess priorities and work independently.

  • Completion relevant safety trainings.

  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to small or large groups (virtually or in person).

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

  • Bilingualism (French/English) required.

  • The position may require up to 15% travel, generally for one week or less at a time.

  • Ability to safely navigate stairs, ladders, and uneven terrain, access active worksites and structures under construction, and wear specialized personal protective equipment (PPE).

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a health and safety-related profession.

  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety.

  • Significant field experience will be considered an asset.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
