Role Overview – Senior Fund Analyst – Financial Reporting & Taxation

We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Senior Fund Analyst to join our finance team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the accounting and reporting for multiple fund entities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and delivering timely financial information to stakeholders. Your expertise will enable us to drive efficiencies in our accounting/reporting processes while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full cycle of fund accounting, including the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and annual tax reporting
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and accounting standards while preparing and reviewing financial reports
  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations
  • Coordinate the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors to facilitate timely completion
  • Develop and monitor accounting policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and financial controls
  • Ensure compliance with tax policies
  • Provide analytical support for fund performance reporting and develop insights for management decision-making
  • Provide insightful financial and tax analysis and reporting to senior management, highlighting key metrics and trends.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in fund accounting and taxation, preferably within an asset management or financial services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and regulations, including GAAP and IFRS and Canadian Income Tax Act.
  • Proficiency in financial software and reporting tools, with advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to work independently

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Accounting or Finance, or relevant certifications (e.g., CPA or CFA)
  • Experience with fund administration systems and data analytics tools
  • Strong understanding of investment products and financial markets

Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies

  • Advanced Excel capabilities, including pivot tables and complex formulas
  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting requirements and data management tools

Soft Skills and Cultural Fit

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling effective collaboration

  • Ensure timely reconciliation of cash, positions, and other transactional data, identifying and resolving discrepancies as they arise.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Implement and maintain robust accounting policies and procedures that enhance operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Support the development of automated solutions to streamline accounting processes and reporting.
  • Provide insightful financial analysis and reporting to senior management, highlighting key metrics and trends.

Salary:
$75,900.00 - $141,900.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
