POSITION SUMMARY


The Case Management Specialist is responsible for managing the employee disability case management process and facilitating the return-to-work process for employees who have experienced work-related or non-work-related injuries or illnesses. This role ensures a smooth transition back to the workplace by coordinating accommodations, modified duties, and rehabilitation plans in collaboration with employees, managers, healthcare providers, and insurance carriers.


This position is scheduled for 20 hours per week, to be worked Monday through Friday during regular business hours between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with specific scheduling and availability coordinated with the role’s manager.


MEDICAL AND RTW COMMUNICATION & ENGAGEMENT

  • Works with the HSE Manager, reviews and communicates with LOA, Medical (101) and work-related illness and injury (102) workers to determine suitable RTW options.
  • Communicates regularly with employees, healthcare professionals, and workplace stakeholders with empathy and clarity. The service standard for this item is every 6-8 weeks or at the HSE Manager’s request.
  • Assesses and manages case files relating to employee absences from intake to resolution.
  • Support return-to-work planning based on medical and non-medical conditions, functional abilities and fitness to return-to-work.
  • Provides support techniques to aid employees during times of challenging mental and physical health.
  • Uses data and analytics to make informed decisions and identify trends in recovery and return-to-work outcomes.
  • Builds strong, trust-based relationships with commissionaires, operations managers and healthcare providers.
  • Provides data based reporting to the organization as requested.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential case documentation.


OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY ADMINISTRATION

  • Assists with the administration of the CNS Health and Safety Program
  • Assists the Operations Department with site-based needs
  • Assists with administrative functions and reporting


Education and Knowledge


Education: (Minimum Required): A diploma or degree is desirable or an acceptable equivalent of education and experience.


Certifications: Government of Canada Secret-level security clearance. Valid Nova Scotia driver's license

Professional/Technical Knowledge: 

  • Strong MS Office and computer aptitude skills are required, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Share Point.
  • Understanding of the Nova Scotia Labour Standards Code, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Act, Workers' Compensation
