JOB SUMMARY

Traffic Signal Installation & Field Programs is responsible for Traffic Signal assembly, installation, modification and maintenance, Traffic Control Room management of data and video equipment and data communications, Signal Timing engineering, Camera assembly, installation, modification and maintenance, and Re-lamping management.

You are responsible for leading crews in the assembly, installation, repair, removal and maintenance of traffic control devices and associated electrical equipment within the City of Ottawa.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Electrician-Maintenance & Construction apprenticeship program of 9000 hours

Minimum of 7 years of related experience in the installation and maintenance of a variety of electrical equipment, including transformers and controllers, motors, switchgear, etc. including eighteen months of experience working with traffic control devices, and including minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Electrician-Construction and Maintenance 309A

Must obtain International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Field Technician Level II certification within the timeframe determined by the employer

Valid Ontario unrestricted AZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated is an asset

Electrical Safety Awareness – High Voltage training certificate is an asset

Mobile Crane Operator 0-8 ton (P930030) training certificate

Forklift Operator Licence

Must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer.

City of Ottawa standards and procedures for installing, repairing and maintaining traffic devices
Equipment/tools and technical procedures, processes used in installing, removing and maintaining traffic control and other devices/signs
Road and traffic control device system within the City of Ottawa
Ottawa Hydro procedures and protocols for working around high voltage electricity
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance
Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
