The mandate of Water Services is to provide treatment and distribution of a sustainable supply of high-quality drinking water and is committed to protecting the environment by collecting and treating wastewater for the health and prosperity of Ottawa.
You are responsible for planned, unplanned and emergency inspection, testing, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and/or repair of all mechanical / electrical equipment as they relate to Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Systems, Building Automation Systems (BAS) Natural Gas fired emergency standby power systems within Water Production (including the Water Purification Plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, elevated tanks, metering facilities and well treatment systems) or Wastewater treatment and collection facilities (including Wastewater treatment plant, odour control facilities, regulators, valve chambers, storage tanks, and some remote pumping stations). When called upon, you also assist in the inspection, installation, troubleshooting maintaining and repair of the natural and anaerobic digester gas collection, treatment, distribution and combustions systems and equipment at the Robert O. Pickard Environment Centre.
These duties are carried out in an industrial, production, regulated and quality focused environment and, as such, must be completed in consideration of and in close coordination with other engineering, skilled trade and maintenance staff in the Branch.
Completion of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic apprenticeship program of 9000 hours and completion of Gas Technician Level 1 training program.
Minimum of 5 years of gas fired equipment maintenance, operational experience in heavy industrial environment over 400,000 BTUH, and Air Conditioning Refrigeration industry on equipment over 50 ton capacity, as a licensed Refrigeration Mechanic, including experience with hoisting and cranes (0-8 Ton capacity).
