Location: Nanaimo, B.C.

Employment Type: Full Time

Compensation: $27.00 to $30.00 depending on experience

At Applecross Veterinary Hospital, we are passionate about delivering exceptional care to pets and the people who love them. We are currently welcoming a Registered Veterinary Technician to join our dedicated and compassionate veterinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures

  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian

  • Monitor anesthesia and patient vitals during surgical and dental procedures

  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples (blood, urine, fecal) and perform diagnostic testing as required

  • Take and process diagnostic radiographs and assist with imaging procedures

  • Provide nursing care for hospitalized patients, including monitoring recovery and patient comfort

  • Educate clients on treatment plans, medications, preventative care, and post-procedure instruction

  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in the hospital management system

  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites

  • Ensure equipment and instruments are properly cleaned, sterilized, and maintained

  • Collaborate with veterinarians and hospital team members to support efficient workflow and high-quality patient care

  • Provide mentorship or guidance to veterinary assistants and students

Qualifications

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Registered Veterinary Technician in the applicable provincial regulatory body

  • Graduate of an accredited Veterinary Technician/Technology program

  • Strong technical skills including anesthesia monitoring, laboratory procedures, and radiography

  • Experience in surgery, anesthesia monitoring, and dental procedures considered an asset

  • Excellent patient care and animal handling skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to support clients and collaborate with team members

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and high standards of care
