In this position as a Lead OSIM Bridge Inspector, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a team of engineers and technologists on multiple projects for a range of public and private sector clients. The role of a Lead OSIM Bridge Inspector is to perform a variety of selected tasks and assignments to continue to develop knowledge and skills within the structural discipline. Assignments will require good technical understanding of the basics. Work performed will be under the direct supervision of a Senior Structural Technician or Engineer.

A Lead OSIM Bridge Inspector will perform a variety of tasks which may include preparing drawings and assisting with the plans and designs of structures and facilities such as bridges, railroads, roads, airports, harbors, dams, irrigation projects, pipelines, tunnels, power plants and other projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct the inspection of existing bridges, culverts, and other transportation structures per the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM), Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and other applicable standards

  • Complete daily Health and Safety documentation

  • Available to work flexible hours, days, nights, and weekends. Staff will be required to be away from home for periods

  • Complete Structure deterioration mapping

  • Provide recommendations on bridge, culvert and retaining walls, required maintenance, repair and rehabilitation

  • Daily Records – Keeping a daily journal or diary for reference and payment purposes

  • Input data captured in the field into a database on-site

  • Use of various hand tools

  • Care of rental vehicle

  • Attend and participate in team progress meetings

  • Utilize AutoCAD and Civil3D to prepare structural drawings when required

  • Familiar with Bridge Management software and inputting inspection data

  • Work within assigned projects and schedules

  • Working understanding of CAD Standards

  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team

  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite

  • Working knowledge of software programs including AutoCAD Civil3D and/or MicroStation, GIS, and Adobe Acrobat

  • Working knowledge of basic calculations

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Able to work under and meet tight deadlines

  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation

  • Eager to learn with strong listening and critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Attended the MTO 2024 Inspectors workshop

  • Valid Ontario driver’s license

  • Ability to perform outdoor physical duties while doing bridge inspection work

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Positive attitude, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent organization and time management skills

  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Able to work in a team environment and excel in bridge inspection projects

  • Intermediate knowledge of AutoCAD.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Civil Technology / Technician engineering with strong interest and experience in Bridge Engineering – Biennial Inspections

  • OACETT designation or eligible

  • P.Eng. would be an asset

  • 4+ years of experience leading Biennial inspections

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$61,900.00 - $86,700.00 Annually
