Your Key Responsibilities
Act as project manager, structural lead, and designer for engineering assignments
Responsible for transportation structural inspection assignments and be supervising engineer on biennial (OSIM) inspection assignments
Attend site visits related to pre-design information gathering, construction and post-construction review
Lead and conduct the inspection of existing bridges, culverts, and other transportation structures in accordance with the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM), Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and other applicable standards
Coordinate work with clients and other disciplines including highway/road, electrical, drainage and environmental planning
Analyze, evaluate appropriate design solutions and design of transportation structures including bridges, culverts, retaining walls and foundations
Provide direction to project team members and support staff through verbal and written instructions
Direct CAD team for drawing preparation and review deliverables prior to submission to client
Prepare and review technical reports, tender documents, and cost estimates
Provide recommendations and costing on bridge, culvert and retaining walls, required maintenance, repair and rehabilitation
Provide tender evaluations and/or construction engineering services
Conduct business development activities to secure new projects by client liaison and proposal preparation
Attend and participate in team progress meetings
Available to work flexible hours, days, nights, and weekends. Staff will be required to be away from home for periods of time
Complete daily health and safety documentation
Conduct regular reviews of transportation structure projects to ensure budget, schedule, risk, and cost to complete estimates are appropriate
Work within assigned projects and schedules
Successful experience of analyzing, evaluating, rehabilitating, and designing bridges and culverts
Interest in working both in the office and the field environment
Ability to perform outdoor physical duties while doing bridge inspection work
Valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Strong computer skills, including experience with bridge inspection and asset management software, SAP2000, CSiBridge and SFRAME
Excellent written and verbal communication
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Able to work in a team environment and excel in both bridge and multi-disciplined projects
Demonstrated interest in business development activates and preparation of proposals
Proven ability to supervise, direct and mentor staff
Organized and detail oriented
Ability to direct a team and mentor technical development of others
Works well with minimal direction
Education and Experience
BASc or B.Eng. In civil/structural engineering with strong interest and experience in bridge engineering
P. Eng. status and 10+ years leading biennial inspection assignments and leading large transportation structures projects
RAQS eligible within bridge engineering for biennial inspections
Attended the MTO 2024 Inspectors workshop
Experience in the role of supervising engineer on OSIM inspection assignments
Experience in fatigue inspections
Experience in proposal and report writing
Experience in asset management
Experience in project management
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
