Front Counter Peace Officer – Full Time

Position Overview

Commissionaires Southern Alberta is currently seeking a Front Counter Peace Officer to be assigned to the Calgary Police Service Traffic Section. This position is accountable to the Traffic Administrative Team and works in close cooperation with front office administrative staff.

The Front Counter Peace Officer provides front-line customer service and comprehensive administrative support while serving members of the public, Traffic members, and internal stakeholders in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner.


Key Responsibilities

Front Counter & Public Service

  • Respond to in-person enquiries relating to Traffic Safety Act violations, civilian collision reports, and general traffic-related matters.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to members of the public.
  • Complete and process Police Information Checks.

Telephone & Communications Support

  • Answer all incoming telephone calls and transfer calls to appropriate extensions or voicemail.
  • Page Traffic members who are on duty and in the building as required.
  • Clear overnight voicemail messages and route messages to the appropriate departments for follow-up.
  • Respond to telephone enquiries relating to the Traffic Safety Act and general Traffic Section services.

Administrative Support

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Traffic Section.
  • Process traffic violations and related documentation.
  • Process violation ticket cancellations for Calgary Police Service vehicles.
  • Process and distribute court documents.
  • Process and distribute internal and external mail.

Fleet, Claims & Reporting

  • Process police vehicle collision reports, including updating Fleet and internal databases.
  • Distribute reports to third parties as required.
  • Liaise with City representatives to ensure accuracy of civilian collision and claim information.

Applications, Reviews & Investigations

  • Process Towing & Storage refund applications, including investigation into circumstances, protocol, and officer response.
  • Process Parking Tag review applications, including investigations and public liaison.
  • Process civilian vehicle hold applications.
  • Process vehicle equipment compliance reports, including inspections of public vehicles to ensure compliance.

Equipment & Asset Management

  • Maintain the equipment room, ensuring:
    • Radios are functioning properly
    • Batteries are maintained
    • Accurate completion of equipment and vehicle sign‑out sheets
  • Maintain section equipment, including photocopiers, fax machines, shredders, and related devices.
  • Manage section fuel cards and associated receipts.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Process requests for Traffic Section escorts.
  • Perform various ad-hoc duties as required by the Traffic Administrative Team.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to pass a CPS clearance (minimum 3 years of Canadian residency required)
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proven administrative experience in a fast-paced, public-facing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficient with standard office equipment and administrative systems.

Working Conditions

  • Office and public-facing environment within a police facility.
  • Regular interaction with members of the public and police personnel.
  • Consistent weekday schedule with no shift rotation.
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday | 07:00 – 15:00
