Payroll & Benefits Manager

Location: Ottawa, ON, Hybrid, 2 days onsite per week
Compensation: $45- $55.00 T4, per hour
Language: Strong English communication required, both written and verbal; bilingual French is an asset
Duration: Contract to permanent (6 Months to start with a conversion at the end)
Background Check Requirement: Standard background check required

About the Opportunity
Our client, a well-established non-profit organization, is seeking a Manager, Payroll and Benefits to join their People and Culture team. This is a unique opportunity to step into a leadership role where you will oversee payroll operations while supporting a broader network of internal employees and external client groups. The role blends technical payroll expertise with people leadership and cross-functional collaboration.

You will work closely with HR and Finance teams, acting as a key partner in ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and a seamless employee experience. This is a hands-on leadership role where your ability to manage complexity, support your team, and build strong internal relationships will directly impact organizational success.

Your Responsibilities

• You’ll oversee end-to-end payroll operations using Dayforce, ensuring accuracy and compliance
• You’ll lead and support a team of two coordinators, providing guidance on complex payroll and benefits matters
• In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with HR and Finance to support payroll-related reporting and reconciliations
• You’ll review and approve payroll processing while stepping in hands-on for escalations or complex cases
• You’ll support benefits administration, including pension and employee programs

Skills and Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership or team oversight
• Strong hands-on experience with payroll systems, ideally Dayforce
• Solid understanding of payroll compliance and benefits administration
• Experience collaborating with Finance on reconciliations or reporting
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
• PCP certification completed or in progress is preferred
