Salary: $125,100.00 CAD - $175,100.00 CAD
 

Working closely with the VP of Underwriting and Chief Underwriter, the Director will help drive the ongoing development of existing tools such as AIDA (Artificial Intelligence Decision Algorithm) and ADAM (Anomaly Detection Adjudication Model) as well as help identify additional uses of AI tools across claims and underwriting.  

Beyond the Underwriting team, this role collaborates with the Insurance Leadership Team, Operations Leadership Team, Artificial Intelligence Team, pricing and risk functions.  

General Accountabilities: 

With a background in insurance underwriting, actuarial or operations, bring strategic thinking to the team by providing input to business planning and direction, identifying future business opportunities, and driving the development of plans to achieve agreed upon objectives.  Establish key strategic initiatives with the leadership team and ensure focus aligns with IIC, Affinity and GB strategic priorities.  Develop and maintain a framework to implement, track and report on the initiatives. Responsible for providing updates and frequent reports to key stakeholders on the status and health of ongoing initiatives. Support Underwriting leadership team with adhoc strategic/transformational tasks and priorities. 

Job Requirements: 

  • Strong problem solving skills, analytical skills & proficiency with numbers, including financial analysis.  

  • Financial Services Industry experience; strong life and health insurance knowledge preferred. 

  • Business Development skills: ability to think conceptually and creatively regarding solutions and opportunities 

  • Collaborative approach; ability to work through others and influence change; work across teams in the organization 

  • Excellent communication skills (written & oral) and advanced experience with presentation preparation  

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently; strong organizational skills; ability to plan forward and manage deadlines. Attention to detail. 

  • Demonstrated initiative – willing to explore and drive changes to existing processes and reports.   

Responsibilities: 

  • Bring Strategic thinking to the team by providing input to business planning and direction, identifying future business opportunities, and driving the development of plans to achieve agreed upon objectives. 

  • Manage monthly reporting cycle, updates for monthly business  and finance review, weekly analysis of operational effectiveness.  

  • Establish key strategic initiatives with the leadership team and ensure focus aligns with IIC strategic priorities.   

  • Develop and maintain a framework to implement, track and report on the initiatives Responsible for providing updates and frequent reports to key stakeholders on the status and health of ongoing initiatives. Present results to internal and external stakeholders and leadership teams. 

  • Work across the operations team to identify resources required to implement strategic initiatives. 

  • Support Underwriting leadership team with adhoc strategic/transformational tasks and priorities. 

  • As an informal leader within the business unit, the manager is expected to help drive employee engagement 

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.

Salary range is expected to be between

$125,100.00 CAD - $175,100.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
