Role

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Public Health Delivery, the Executive Director, Communicable Disease Control is accountable for providing leadership, strategic direction, coordination, and developing strong stakeholder relationships for the province’s communicable disease control and immunization programs.

 

Working within general Government of Alberta guidelines, the position provides leadership in strategy and policy development for communicable diseases and immunization to support provincial goals. The incumbent is responsible for outbreak management and for overseeing the efficient operation of the Provincial Vaccine Depot, as well as the provincial information systems that support communicable disease surveillance, immunization programs, and vaccine inventory management. and logistics.

 

The Executive Director will also be responsible for providing strategic options, sound advice, briefings, and recommendations to achieve business plan goals. Additionally, the incumbent will provide high level guidance, expertise and support regarding priority setting, development of initiatives, and related project management.

 

 

Qualifications

Success in this role calls for a progressive leader with significant related senior management leadership experience in operational policy development and implementation, within a complex, public sector organization.

 

You bring a strong systems thinking lens, an understanding of the health system and health system issues in Alberta and Canada, and familiarity with government processes, protocols, and legislation. You also have knowledge of business planning processes, including familiarity with Government of Alberta business plans and procurement processes and demonstrated experience in financial management. Over the course of your career, you have developed significant expertise providing advice and liaising with internal and external stakeholder groups.

 

You have demonstrated skills and the ability to collaborate and influence others across multiple areas without direct authority. You possess a high degree of political acuity, are agile, and solutions oriented. Your track record includes success in leading large-scale initiatives and projects through to completion. A respected leader with experience leading staff, you are committed to building strong lines of communication and trust, as well as empowering your teams to achieve results through performance excellence.

 

A four-year bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree is preferred. 

 

 

Salary

$5,758.44 - $7,567.65 bi-weekly ($150,295.28 to $197,515.67 annually)

 

 

Notes

This is a temporary opportunity, up to 12 months. This is a temporary but highly impactful executive role.
