About the Opportunity

Altis Recruitment is partnering with a well-established automotive retail organization to hire a Bookkeeper to support day-to-day financial operations at a busy dealership. This is a hands-on role where you will take ownership of core accounting functions, ensuring accuracy across payroll, reporting, and transactional processes that keep the business running smoothly.

 

You will work closely with ownership and a small, collaborative team in a fast-paced environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their day, is eager to learn, and wants to build strong foundational accounting experience while contributing directly to business operations.

Your Responsibilities

  • You’ll manage full-cycle bookkeeping, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • In this role, you’ll prepare monthly financial statements and support reporting requirements.
  • You’ll process biweekly payroll for approximately 20 employees, including commission-based calculations.
  • You’ll handle HST filings and ensure compliance with monthly CRA remittances.
  • You’ll perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate inventory tracking for new and used vehicles.
  • You’ll liaise with external accountants and support year-end reporting processes.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience in a hands-on environment.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles, including accruals and expense classification.
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage 50, or similar systems.
  • Exposure to payroll processing and sales tax filings.
  • Strong Excel and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • University Degree/College Diploma in Accounting strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a retail or dealership environment is considered an asset.
