HSSE Technical Writer - Canada

Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an individual to facilitate development, quality control, continuous improvement, and implementation of Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) program documents in Canada. Under the direction of the HSSE Director of Operations this individual will support the organization by harmonizing global standards with regional and local requirements to meet regulatory and business requirements in Canada.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Business Operating Unit (BOU) HSSE Managers, Regional HSSE Managers, and the HSSE Services team to develop, implement, and maintain documentation as it pertains to Stantec’s HSSE program in Canada

  • Coordinate and develop HSSE guidance documents, presentations, and communications using plain language principles in English and French.

  • Accountable for managing the quality process related to framework documents

  • Assist with information gathering sessions with HSSE and BOU operational teams to understand organizational risk and document control requirements

  • Support assessment and refinement of HSSE processes and procedures (as needed and as they apply to Canada) so they remain effective and continue to meet organizational needs

  • Assist with HSSE business process development in support of HSSE framework changes

  • Lead or contribute to HSSE knowledge sharing through Regional and BOU SharePoint sites and outreach channels such as Microsoft Viva Engage

  • Work with the HSSE Data and Digital Services team to visualize data and trends and develop reports and presentations

  • Coordinate knowledge sharing between North American and Global operations and Functional Services Team partners

  • Update and maintain documents in a SharePoint environment

  • Assist with management of change processes and planning

  • Keep up to date on emerging HSSE trends, regulations, and best practices

  • Develop and facilitate training to inform team of HSSE program responsibilities

  • Lead or contribute to other HSSE initiatives as determined by the Director

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal in French and English

  • Strong interpersonal skills. Capable of delivering, preparing, and presenting to groups in French and English

  • A willingness to work in a team atmosphere with a minimal amount of supervision

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and assignments

  • Understanding of the Canadian health, safety and environmental regulatory framework

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat is required. Power BI experience is an asset

  • Experience developing ISO certified program documents or an understanding of HSSE requirements as they relate to implementing an ISO certified health and safety management system is desired

Education and Experience

  • Diploma/certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience related to technical writing is preferred.

  • Minimum five (5) years’ related experience in a document coordinator, technical writer or technical editor role.

  • HSSE related education and/or experience is considered an asset.

Pay Range:

• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$59,300.00 - $86,000.00 Annually

• $66,400.00 - $96,300.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
