Your Key Responsibilities
Direct, organize, and control work to administer contracts of varying size and complexity.
Work on moderate to complex problems requiring thorough analysis of situations or data.
Ensure work on contracts proceeds according to plans, procedures, contract specifications, and quality standards.
Coordinate and/or participate in the review of contract package documentation and ability to identify and communicate any potential errors, omissions, inconsistencies or conflicts that are found in a timely manner
Coordinate your team’s inspection activities to ensure conformance with specifications and contract documents.
Confirm that work on contracts proceeds in accordance with approved designs and contract specifications.
Review and prepare recommendations via memo format for clients in response to RFC's, change orders, claims, change proposals, RFI's or EOT's.
Review and issue responses to RFCs in collaboration with the project manager and client.
Manage progress payment reviews and approvals.
Review claims before presenting them to the project manager and client.
Prepare and issue instruction notices with collaboration from the PM and client.
Mentor and coach junior staff and monitor and advise on staff levels and requirements for your project team.
Champion an engaged safety culture and foster a positive and collaborative team culture.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Ability to proactively identify construction issues, schedule impacts, and risks to cost, quality, and safety, and escalate or recommend mitigation measures as required.
Knowledge and understanding of Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS) and Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD).
Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Environmental Protection Act, Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM).
Knowledge of construction survey and layout.
Knowledge of construction methods and materials.
Knowledge of Construction Administration and Inspection Specifications (CAIS) as well as the Construction Management System (CMS)is an asset.
Excellent verbal and written communication, time management, negotiation and conflict resolution, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to prepare instructions, memos and technical reports.
Experience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access).
Experience working with MS Project or Primavera is considered an asset.
A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Education and Experience
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Contract Administration and Construction Inspection on Municipal, Provincial or Federal heavy civil / transportation construction projects.
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology / Technician.
Registration as a professional engineer with PEO, or as a technician or technologist with OACETT.
Professional designations such as P. Eng, CET or C. Tech considered assets
Already possess or ability to obtain industry specific Road Designations (RCCA, RCSI) through OACETT
Equivalent work experience and transferable skills may be considered.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
