The Disability Services Division encompasses the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) and Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) programs, which work with individuals, children and families within the differing program’s mandates and legislation to understand the support needs of individuals, children and families to provide individualized supports and services within the scope of each program. 

Role Responsibilities

The Behavioural Consultant works within a Multidisciplinary Community Support Team (CST) in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS)/Recovery Alberta to support individuals with developmental disabilities who have complex service needs. The Behavioural Consultant provides behaviour consultation, guidance, and planning Support to stakeholders including individuals, families, service providers, and community partners. The focus of the role is to promote wellness, support system navigation and build capacity of stakeholders to meet the needs of Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) funded individuals.

 

Key Responsibilities
•    Provide behaviour consultation and support planning for individuals who require a risk mitigation approach, behaviour supports, specialized training and those who have been designated as individuals with complex service needs.
•    Support the development of functional behaviour assessments and support the development and implementation of behaviour and wellness plans, risk assessments and other documents and training to support Complex Service Needs.
•    Collaborate with individuals, families, Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) staff, service providers, and community partners to coordinate supports.
•    Provide training, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to stakeholders on behaviour support best practices.
•    Support crisis response, discharge/transition planning, evaluate the effectiveness of behaviour supports, and recommend improvements to enhance quality of life outcomes.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Social Work with some related experience.

 
Equivalency: 
•    Master of Social Work (no experience required); OR
•    Related university degree and 2 years related experience; OR 
•    Related diploma and 3 years related experience; OR 
•    Related certificate and 4 years related experience

 

Related experience includes/ assets:

•    Experience planning, implementing and monitoring positive behaviour supports and restrictive procedures.
•    Education or training related to functional behaviour analysis or assessment (“adaptive behaviour training”)
•    Education or training related to a vareity of behavioural support strategies and interventions, trauma informed practice, anti-oppressive practice.
•    Facilitation and presentation experience - developing materials and facilitating presentations or sessions (in person and virtual) Providing behavioural support planning, risk analysis, adaptive behavior training, and utilizing trauma informed practice preferably in a community setting. 
•    Case management experience is preferred, as is experience working within a multidisciplinary team and providing clear recommendations that support both individuals and community partners. 
•    Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities who have complex service needs will be considered an asset.
•    Sharing expertise through mentorship, formal training, and hands-on coaching to help others better support individuals with complex needs.

 

This role requires a mix of independent and team-based work, strong problem-solving skills, strong communication skills (written and verbal), and the ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and respect.

Hours of work are 36.25 hours weekly. 

 

Location: This position could be based in Calgary, Lethbridge, or Medicine Hat, AB and reflects services to the South Zone.

 

This position is used to recruit for 4 permanent positions.

A valid Alberta driver’s license and a vehicle are required as travel is a requirement of this position.
