About the Opportunity
Sport Check is seeking a Manager, Data Governance to lead the governance, quality, and enablement of merchandising data across the organization. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that key merchandising data assets, systems, and tools are reliable, well governed, and positioned to support complex business decisions across Sport Check and partner banners.

Working at the intersection of merchandising, analytics, and technology, you will help ensure teams across the organization have access to trusted, high-quality data that drives operational efficiency and strategic decision making. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to enterprise transformation initiatives, including banner integration and modernization of merchandising data capabilities.

What’s In It for You
This role offers the chance to shape how data is governed and used across a large national retail organization. You will collaborate with cross functional leaders across merchandising, analytics, finance, and technology while helping modernize tools and processes that support data driven decision making.

You will also have the opportunity to lead and develop a team, drive innovation through automation and AI-enabled analysis, and play a key role in large scale transformation initiatives that impact how the business operates.

Your Responsibilities
• You’ll define and implement data governance standards, ensuring the quality, consistency, and reliability of merchandising data across core domains including product, vendor, cost, inventory, price, and store data.
• You’ll establish data ownership and stewardship practices, ensuring processes and controls are in place to support accurate and trusted data across the organization.
• You’ll act as the Product Owner and subject matter expert for merchandising systems, ensuring tools remain stable, supported, and aligned with business needs.
• You’ll collaborate with merchandising, analytics, finance, and technology teams to align data definitions, scope requirements, and deliver data-driven solutions.
• You’ll lead troubleshooting and resolution of system issues while ensuring documentation, operating procedures, and support models are clearly defined.
• You’ll identify opportunities to reduce manual effort through automation and modern tooling while enabling scalable merchandising processes.
• You’ll lead and develop a team supporting merchandising data governance and systems, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.

Skills and Qualifications
• 7+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or analytics within a retail or merchandising environment
• Post-secondary education in STEM, Business, or a related discipline
• Advanced SQL skills with strong experience working with data structures, reporting, and databases
• Experience supporting data transformation initiatives or enterprise data governance programs
• Familiarity with tools such as Python, VBA, Alteryx, or Microsoft Power Platform is considered an asset
• Strong ability to collaborate with cross functional stakeholders across merchandising, finance, analytics, and technology teams
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor teams and drive accountability
