Location: Toronto, ON (On-site, 5 days per week at Yonge and St. Clair with occasional travel)
Language: English required, strong written and spoken communication skills. French is considered an asset.
Duration: 14–18 month contract

About the Opportunity

Our client, a growing organization in the funeral services sector, is seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner to support their Canadian operations. This role sits at the heart of the employee experience, partnering closely with leadership and managers to guide people practices, support employee relations, and help ensure teams feel supported in a highly emotional and people-centered environment.

You will serve as the primary HR partner for approximately 350–400 employees across Ontario and Quebec, working alongside a broader HR team based in the United States. In this role, you’ll balance strategic partnership with hands-on HR support, helping integrate newly acquired teams, navigating complex employee situations, and ensuring Canadian employment practices are well represented within a global organization.

Your Responsibilities

  • You’ll act as the primary HR partner for Canadian operations, supporting leaders and employees across multiple locations.
  • You’ll lead employee relations matters including investigations, coaching managers, and guiding complex workplace situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • You’ll collaborate with U.S.-based HR colleagues to ensure Canadian employment standards, policies, and legislation are applied correctly.
  • You’ll support onboarding, policy implementation, and HR initiatives as the organization continues to grow and integrate newly acquired teams.
  • You’ll build strong relationships with operational leaders, helping them navigate employee challenges while reinforcing consistent corporate policies.
  • You’ll provide guidance on compliance with employment legislation across Ontario and Quebec.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, ideally in a Business Partner or generalist capacity
  • Strong employee relations experience, including workplace investigations and manager coaching
  • Experience supporting multiple locations or business units within a dynamic environment
  • Working knowledge of Canadian employment legislation, particularly in Ontario, with exposure to Quebec considered an asset
  • Ability to influence and communicate confidently with senior leaders and cross-border stakeholders
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to navigate sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism
  • Experience working in diverse or evolving industries is considered an asset
