Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the central Compliance Monitoring team in Canada by leveraging data analytics and compliance risk management expertise to support the execution and delivery of individual goals, plans, and initiatives aligned to the team’s business strategies and objectives.

 

Accountabilities

  • Utilize Analytics and Insights for aggregated compliance monitoring activities to identify patterns, themes, or trends in compliance controls that may indicate weaknesses or gaps.
  • Lead effort to craft and refine reporting requirements, and support efforts to strengthen the Compliance monitoring program oversight and effective challenge capabilities
  • Assist in defining Business Requirements for compliance monitoring reports, Power BI dashboards, and analytics solutions.
  • Conduct Quality Control (QC) activities related to testing Compliance Monitoring Activities.
  • Drive establishment of feedback mechanisms between other pillars including Compliance Testing to ensure consistent oversight and risk reconciliation.
  • Support efforts to strengthen the monitoring program and its Oversight Capabilities for key risks.
  • Support AI/Advanced Analytics efforts by defining strategic use cases and establishing a long-term vision that enhances enterprise compliance monitoring in alignment with the Data Risk Management Framework
  • Facilitate pillar standardization and automation efforts for utilizing integrated dashboard to support quarterly insights and oversight reports
  • Interpret regulatory expectations and internal compliance standards to assess the adequacy of monitoring and surveillance controls, identify risk gaps, and inform prioritization of remediation and enhancements.
  • Assist in assessing monitoring and surveillance controls across business lines and identifying key priority capabilities to be implemented.
  • Partner with Compliance Subject Matter Experts, and Data Analytics specialists to help generate meaningful insights.
  • Coordinate and support efforts across the bank to document and update monitoring activities within the enterprise systems and ensure alignment with enterprise reporting requirements.
  • Prepare discussion documents for process design workshops, communicate outcomes to stakeholders, and ensure actions/issues are tracked through to resolution.
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

 

Education/Experience

  • Professional with 3+ years of experience in banking or financial services, including at least one year in compliance risk management or reporting
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, including experience working with AI analytics, Power BI, and advanced Excel capabilities for managing and interpreting large datasets.
  • Experience in Compliance, Risk Management, QA , Testing, or Surveillance functions, with exposure to regulatory oversight, or Compliance reporting
  • Proven track record of leading change and process improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
