NAIMR Head of Canada Alternatives Distribution

The North American Investment Manager Research (“NAIMR”) Team works within BMO Private Wealth to provide Nesbitt Burns Investment Advisors (“IA”) and BPIC Investment Counselors (“IC”) the advice, research, and information they need to make insightful recommendations to clients across all asset classes.

NAIMR Head of Canada Alternatives Distribution is a senior role focused on developing Private Wealth Canada’s Alternatives distribution capability, acting as the in-house expert and key resource for IAs and ICs, a senior collaborator on the identification and creation of investment solutions and leader in promoting the responsible adoption of alternatives across the Canadian platform. This individual will exude a senior leader presence and possess exemplary interpersonal, communication and problem-solving capabilities, a deep understanding of alternative investments, and a capacity for strategic thinking.

This position is part of the broader NAIMR alternatives team, comprised of professionals based in Canada and the U.S., collaborating to deliver a consistent, high-quality alternatives offering across the Wealth enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

IA/IC Relationship Management  

  • Support the Canadian Private Wealth business by developing a thoughtful and competitive shelf of alternatives solutions that meet the needs of BMO PW clients
  • Serves as the front-line IC/IA facing representative of the NAIMR alternatives team and considered by the field to be a subject matter expert for alternative offerings and recommendations, portfolio implementation and market insights
  • Support IAs and ICs in their Alternatives-related business development activities with High and Ultra High Net Worth clients
  • Acts as a conduit between NAIMR and Wealth Market Leaders, IAs/ICs. Facilitates two-way feedback regarding the alternative investment platform offerings, needs, demand, etc.

Internal Stakeholder Relationship Management  

  • Works with NAIMR head to establish and enhance internal relationships across the BMO enterprise including BMO Capital Markets, BMO Global Asset Management and Wealth operations
  • Identifies internal partnership opportunities that benefit the broad Wealth and BMO enterprise strategic business objectives
  • Promotes and communicates the NAIMR alternatives platform strategy, interests and benefits

NAIMR Alternative Investment Platform Strategy Development  

  • Provides a critical senior level influence on the alternative platform strategy, priorities, positioning and execution
  • Contributes to the NAIMR imperative of evaluating and selecting third party technology and platform solutions enabling efficient client access to alternative investments
  • Leads development of key alternatives investment platform messaging and communication to be disseminated across the Wealth business and BMO enterprise  

4) Research & Manager Selection

  • Participate in evaluation of alternative investment offerings across private equity, private credit, real assets, and structured and asset-backed opportunities
  • Work within the alternatives team to confirm available funds and strategies are aligned with Wealth investment portfolio and strategic priorities
  • Act as a sounding board assessing how funds and strategies may be received by ICs, IAs and clients   

Qualifications & Experience

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • 15+ years of experience in the investment industry; exposure to alternative assets strongly preferred
  • MBA, CFA, CAIA, or other investment/finance related designation preferred
  • Demonstrated senior leadership and project/initiative management skills
  • Experience with manager due diligence, including strategy assessment, underwriting discipline, and risk evaluation

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of alternatives and specifically private markets and fund structures (open/closed-end, liquidity terms, vehicles, fee structures)
  • Clear, concise writing and strong presentation skills; able to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional coordination skills
  • High attention to detail, comfort operating within governance and regulatory frameworks
  • Collaborative, proactive mindset with an ability to execute independently and influence outcomes while also operating cohesively within a team structure

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
