Stantec Calgary’s Water group is seeking an Intermediate or Junior Engineer to join our growing team to help support the Water Business Line. Focus on large municipal water and wastewater treatment projects but may also include pump station and industrial water projects. These projects include feasibility studies, conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs, along with on-site construction coordination for ongoing water and wastewater treatment projects.
Responsibilities:
As part of the Calgary Water team, you will contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Your responsibilities will include:
Contribute to the planning and design of municipal water and wastewater treatment systems and pump stations, working under the guidance of senior engineers.
Support feasibility studies, conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs through engineering calculations, design development, and technical analysis.
Prepare technical deliverables such as design reports, technical memoranda, and supporting documentation to summarize calculations, economic analyses, and design bases.
Develop and review conceptual and detailed design drawings, calculations, construction specifications, tender documents, and applications for regulatory approvals.
Assist with process modelling and simulation to support treatment process evaluation and design.
Participate in field work and site investigations in support of design activities, including pilot studies and construction‑ related support as required.
Communicate design progress, technical findings, and task status with senior engineers and project managers.
Prepare and contribute to technical presentations and materials for clients and project stakeholders.
Coordinate and collaborate with internal disciplines, including CAD technicians, engineers, and project managers, to support integrated project delivery.
Support project managers by completing assigned tasks in accordance with project schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.
Participate in meetings with clients, regulators, contractors, and other stakeholders to support project coordination and respond to technical requirements.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong foundation in engineering fundamentals, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to delivering high‑ quality work. Key capabilities include:
Foundational understanding of water and wastewater treatment engineering principles (municipal and/or industrial), including treatment processes, process flow diagrams, basic calculations, water quality parameters, and equipment selection.
Ability to apply engineering judgment at an appropriate level and recognize developing technical or project issues, seeking guidance and support when required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with Access, Project, or similar tools is considered an asset.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to project team members and, with support, to clients and stakeholders.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and build positive working relationships with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to organize work, manage multiple tasks, and follow direction while meeting project schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.
Attention to detail, with the ability to review own work for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project objectives.
Willingness to learn, ask questions, and actively contribute to problem‑ solving through critical and creative thinking.
Commitment to client service and the delivery of professional, high‑ quality engineering work products.
Professional, respectful, and positive communication style in both written and in‑ person interactions.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, with a strong interest in water and wastewater projects.
Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or an Engineer‑ in‑ Training (EIT) with APEGA and eligible and willing to obtain registration within one year of hire.
4+ years of relevant experience in the analysis and design of municipal and/or industrial water and wastewater systems.
Previous co‑ op or internship experience in consulting or infrastructure projects is considered an asset.
A master’s degree in a relevant engineering field is considered an asset.
Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record, with the ability to travel to project sites as required.
This role is primarily based in a typical office environment involving computer‑ based work for extended periods. Field work may be required and can include exposure to outdoor conditions and inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
