As Manager, Process Engineering and Standardization, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing comprehensive process development, standardization, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives in Davie’s Engineering Department, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and excellence across projects while actively supporting research and development and contributing to the success of the NSS gap closure plan project. More specifically, you will:

 

  • Develop, document, and implement engineering processes (design, milestones, change management, as-built delivery, etc.) and procedures to enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency across projects.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of comprehensive engineering documentation, including manuals, guidelines, and SOPs.
  • Support training needs for engineering teams on processes and standards.
  • Communicate changes in processes and standards effectively to ensure widespread understanding and adoption.
  • Coordinate and develop research and development projects within the shipyard to implement new production methods.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards to ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
  • Lead efforts to standardize engineering documentation, tools, and methodologies.
  • Provide shipyard engineering coding data instructions (BOM, catalogues, materials, specifications, etc.).
  • Record proposals and suggestions regarding new technologies, materials, and equipment.
  • Provide a shipyard engineering quality plan.
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance measures to ensure adherence to established engineering standards.
  • Support regular audits to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process optimization and implement solutions to enhance overall engineering efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain a standard response process and methodology within the Engineering Department.
  • Report progress to the project management team.
  • Lead some engineering plans.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in shipbuilding or a related industrial field. 
  • College degree or diploma in related field of study.
  • Good knowledge of shipbuilding processes.
  • Ability to work confidently and independently while managing and prioritizing a large volume of work.
  • Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken). Fluency in English is required for this position, as you will interact with English-speaking suppliers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interface with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven experience in managing processes in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to guide and develop technical teams.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate and improve processes.
  • Familiarity with vessel systems, vessel outfitting, and vessel construction
  • Experience working with AVEVA Marine and AVEVA Engineering, or similar software, considered an asset.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, PLM, or ERP, considered an asset.
  • Successful completion of the security screening process and obtainment of the required security clearance under the Federal Government’s Contract Security Program (minimum of 5 years of residency in Canada, with no interruption of 6 consecutive months.
