Position Overview

The Vice President (“VP”) is a senior member of BMO’s Real Estate Private Equity (“BRE Fund”) team, which invests the Bank’s balance sheet alongside leading sponsor and developer clients as direct equity in development and value‑add projects across Canada. The VP leads day‑to‑day value creation on designated LP investments, drives portfolio‑level performance, and mentors junior team members while partnering closely with JV sponsors and internal stakeholders at BMO Capital Markets.

Asset Management (~40%)

  • Own accountability for ~10 LP investment files as the primary point person; set the agenda with partners and drive outcomes on complex situations.
  • Review Analyst and Associate modeling and analysis to drive decisions.
  • Coordinate execution for acquisitions, dispositions, refinancing, and other strategic initiatives related to assigned files.
  • Track carrying values, exposure and oversee risk analysis required to prepare decision-ready updates.
  • Co-lead file completion and documentation: LPA, DMA, PMA, APS, credit agreements.
  • Present investment/monitoring materials to committees.

Portfolio & Internal Management (~40%)

  • Review and challenge portfolio forecasts, dashboards, and recurring performance materials.
  • Oversee quarterly reporting and valuation for portfolio.
  • Synthesize insights for BMO senior stakeholders.
  • Bridge IFRS P&L vs. economic cash for the portfolio.
  • Work alongside BMO Capital Markets Legal, Tax, Finance, Risk and Accounting Policy.
  • Establish operating rhythm across JV updates and internal reviews.
  • Maintain oversight of project bank accounts and process capital calls.

Growth, Investments & Other (~20%)

  • Selectively diligence new opportunities; guide Analysts/Associates on market work.
  • Track the Canadian real estate market across the Residential, Industrial, Data Centre asset classes.
  • Support platform positioning with Investment Banking coverage.
  • Responsible for preparing select investment recommendations to BRE Fund Investment Committee.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years in real estate investing/finance roles.
  • Business degree (BCom/MBA); CFA/AACI/CPA assets.
  • In-depth development knowledge would be a strong asset.
  • Experience with leading and mentoring Analysts/Associates, demonstrating a “player‑coach” mentality.
  • Demonstrates the ability to drive a positive work-place culture.
  • Exceptional Excel/PPT; able to step in and perform individual analysis when required.
  • High detail orientation and organizational excellence.
  • Use strong interpersonal skillset to form positive internal and external working relationships.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Strong communication and modeling review capability.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
