Position Overview

Patient Sitters observe and monitor the health condition of patients under the supervision of trained nurses in hospitals or nursing homes. Sitters may also be required to visit patients in their home. Sitters provide care in a manner that soothes patients, observe for changes in their condition, and summon nursing staff where necessary. While this position is strictly hands-off in a hospital or nursing home setting, Sitters working with patients in their homes may be required to help with feeding or dressing.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring supervision of patients at all time.
  • Provide emotional support to patients.
  • Detecting changes in condition of patients and reporting to nurses as required.
  • Alerting nursing staff when patients require assistance.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Adhering to relevant policies, procedures, and standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • English or French communication required; bilingualism is an asset.
  • Must be able to work shifts (day, evening, night).
  • Must have a current CPR certificate.
  • Must have a recent (within the last 1 year) police check for the vulnerable sector.
  • Must have a negative TB test from within the last 1 year.
  • Must have a mobile device and access to the internet.
  • Must have at least 2 doses of the Covid19 Vaccination.

Compensation

$16.60-$17.60 per hour

Les préposés à la surveillance des patients observent et surveillent l’état de santé des patients sous la supervision d’infirmières et d’infirmiers qualifiés, en milieu hospitalier ou en établissement de soins de longue durée. Les préposés peuvent également être appelés à se rendre au domicile des patients. Ils offrent des soins de manière à rassurer les patients, surveillent tout changement dans leur état et avisent le personnel infirmier au besoin. Bien que ce poste soit strictement sans contact physique en milieu hospitalier ou en établissement de soins de longue durée, les préposés travaillant au domicile des patients peuvent être appelés à aider à l’alimentation ou à l’habillement.

Responsabilités

  • Assurer la surveillance des patients en tout temps.
  • Offrir un soutien émotionnel aux patients.
  • Détecter les changements dans l’état des patients et en informer le personnel infirmier au besoin.
  • Alerter le personnel infirmier lorsque les patients requièrent de l’assistance.
  • Maintenir la confidentialité des renseignements relatifs aux patients.
  • Respecter les politiques, procédures et normes applicables.

Qualifications

  • Diplôme d’études secondaires.
  • Capacité de communiquer en anglais ou en français; le bilinguisme est un atout.
  • Disponibilité pour travailler sur des quarts de jour, de soir et de nuit.
  • Certificat de RCR valide requis.
  • Vérification du casier judiciaire pour le secteur vulnérable récente (au cours des 12 derniers mois).
  • Test de dépistage de la tuberculose (TB) négatif datant de moins de 12 mois.
  • Posséder un appareil mobile et avoir accès à Internet.
  • Avoir reçu au moins deux doses du vaccin contre la COVID-19.

Exigences supplémentaires

  • Capacité de se déplacer vers plusieurs sites, incluant les hôpitaux, les établissements de soins de longue durée et les domiciles privés.
  • Capacité de demeurer vigilant et attentif pendant toute la durée de l’affectation auprès d’un patient.
  • Capacité de soulever et de transporter jusqu’à 30 livres.
  • Excellentes aptitudes en communication et en travail d’équipe.
  • Capacité de surveiller les patients sur de longues périodes.
  • Capacité de réagir rapidement en situation urgente.
  • Patience, professionnalisme et comportement respectueux.
  • Aisance avec les technologies de base.

Rémunération

16,60-17,60 $/heure
