Your Opportunity

The role of a Senior Project Manager is to manage the design and delivery of large projects and maintain relations with current and future clients within our Energy business line. This opportunity specifically is for our Power Delivery team with focus on British Columbia and our large Engineering delivery program with BC Hydro. Candidate must be a hands-on problem solver willing to work through issues as they arise with staff, clients, offices, disciplines, and projects. They must also foster effective working relationships between colleagues, associates, clients, and officials. Over time, this role is expected to grow towards increased leadership influence within the BC Hydro program, contributing to the development and coordination of project delivery teams.

Your Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing and delivering successful Power Delivery projects in the Energy operation with particular focus on BC Hydro initiated capital projects. As a Senior Project Manager, you will interact internally throughout the organization with staff at all levels as well as externally with clients, members of business and professional organizations, subcontractors, and other firms. You will also work closely with the current head of project delivery for BCH as it is expected that this role will transition into this responsibility.

Specific responsibilities of a Project Manager include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Working in a manner to protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients, and the public by following company health, safety and security guidelines and policies.

  • Maintaining and enhancing our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider.

  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Establishing project objectives, procedures and performance standards in compliance with Stantec and client processes and leading multi-disciplinary teams on proposals, planning studies, feasibility through final designs, and construction services for Power Delivery projects.

  • Identifying appropriate resources and skill sets to achieve project objectives as well as managing contract terms, tracking, and managing costs and schedule, and implementing measures necessary to stay on schedule and within budget.

  • Leading by example with active support of internal policies and practices, including risk management, project management, and quality management.

  • Growing internal and external networks to enhance Stantec’s reputation and identifying additional talent to join our team.

  • Providing mentoring and training for future leaders, including development of succession plans for key positions.

  • Participate in helping to build, grow and develop teams of high performers to deliver successful client programs and projects.

  • Developing client relationships to facilitate project activities.

  • Promoting collaboration and teamwork across business lines and geographies.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong project management skills, with experience in organizing, planning, and executing projects from pursuit through closeout, involving internal personnel, subconsultants, contractors, and vendors.

  • Demonstrated successful experience in client service management.

  • Demonstrated successful experience in leadership, including defining and setting the direction for a team, project, and office; strategy development; change management; and corporate stewardship.

  • Demonstrated successful experience in decision making, including making sound defensible business decisions; and identifying, assessing, evaluating, and solving complex problems.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in problem solving, and risk management.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated people leadership skills and ability to lead, develop and mentor project management staff.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing utility, power systems, substation, or transmission projects

  • Travel to other offices as well as to project sites will be required.

  • Prior experience delivering projects for BC Hydro specifically, or other utility clients in Western Canada, would be highly desirable.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 15 years’ relevant experience in project management for power utility projects is required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or sciences is required.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng.) is preferred.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers; Stantec offers a flexible work environment (a hybrid model of working in the office and at home).

Pay Range:

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$111,700.00 - $167,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
