We are seeking an experienced IT Systems Analyst to support, enhance, and maintain a suite of mission‑critical legacy enterprise applications. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on expertise in mainframe and Unix-based environments, excels in troubleshooting complex systems, and can work both independently and as part of a cross‑functional team.
This role is vital to the stability, modernization, and ongoing performance of the core business systems that power our operations. It is well suited for a professional who thrives in established technology environments and understands the importance of system reliability, performance, and data integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain, enhance, and support mission‑critical legacy systems both batch and online across production and development environments.
Provide ongoing production support and resolve issues for high‑volume transactional applications.
Analyze business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
Develop, modify, test, and optimize batch and online programs.
Troubleshoot complex production issues promptly and accurately.
Conduct code reviews, impact analyses, and maintain technical documentation.
Collaborate with business analysts, operations teams, and infrastructure partners to deliver stable and efficient systems.
Support system migrations, integrations, and modernization initiatives.
Plan, execute, and document testing activities to ensure delivery of high‑quality solutions.
Participate in a rotating on‑call schedule to provide overnight support for batch processing and ensure job completion.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in related filed of study and/or equivalent experience
Work Experience: 7+ years of experience as a Systems Analyst or similar technical role.
Other Qualifications:
Proven experience supporting high‑volume transactional systems within COBOL‑based legacy environments.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex, interconnected systems.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively in team settings.
Solid understanding of batch and online processing, scheduling tools, and performance tuning.
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt to evolving technologies, and work autonomously.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong experience working in Unix/Linux environments.
Proficiency with scripting languages and maintaining legacy COBOL applications.
Broad hands‑on experience with mainframe, legacy, and Unix-based technologies (e.g., COBOL, Easytrieve, CICS, JCL, ISPF, Control-M, SQL, Oracle, shell scripting, HP‑UX, and related tools).
Experience in the insurance or health-related industry is a bonus.
Language Skills: English, written and spoken. French would be considered an asset.
Security Clearance Requirement: In conjunction with our contract with the Federal Government, you will be required to have Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B). This includes Fingerprinting, Criminal Record Check, Credit Check and you must have resided in Canada for at least 5 years and hold Permanent Resident or Citizenship Status.

88,158 - 99,177 CADThe Base Pay range may vary depending on the successful candidate or other relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and education/training. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Medavie employees may participate in various performance-based incentive programs. Payments under these programs are discretionary and subject to both individual and organizational results.
