JOB SUMMARY

The mandate of the Transit Customer Systems and Planning Service is to provide customer service, service planning and technology and control systems support for OC Transpo, geared to providing excellence in customer service delivery to 100 million transit customers per year by means of conventional bus, para transit and rail operations. The Technology and Control Systems branch is responsible for managing multiple and major transit IT projects that are highly complex, of multi-million dollar value, normally extend over multiple years, and may require extensive public consultation.

You are responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining and performing preventative maintenance on electronic equipment within the Transportation Services Department.  You maintain an inventory of parts, related equipment and installation kits, maintain records of repair activities, and perform related duties.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12 and 1 year community college program in Computer Repair and Maintenance.

Studies in micro-computer based systems an asset

Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a shop environment, in the testing, repair and maintenance of electronic equipment, to include experience working with specialized software applications and inventory management reporting.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of methods/techniques/tools for testing, repairing, rebuilding and maintaining electronic equipment
  • Understanding of City inventory management policies/procedures
  • Knowledge of the Smartbus concept and applications, particularly MDT, radio and  other electronic equipment
  • Knowledge of Fleetfocus/M5 software primarily used by Fleet Services
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • Knowledge and good understanding of maintenance operations and procedures is desirable

  • Able to work independently, with minimum support/directions and collaboratively as part of a team to meet service levels
  • Possess organizational skills and flexibility to plan, organize and prioritize own work, and to deal effectively with multiple demands, conflicting priorities, pressures and deadlines
  • Possess analytical and problem solving skills
  • Able to maintain accurate records and be attentive to detail
  • Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Possess computer literacy in MS Office Suite in a Windows environment, including use of the intra/internet
  • Proficient in inventory management
  • Able to operate standard office equipment and possess strong data entry, keyboarding/retrieval and record-keeping skills
  • Able to effectively manage change in processes or operations.
  • Flexible and adaptable to deal with shifting priorities and emerging technologies
  • Possess maturity, interpersonal skills and good judgment
  • Able to work nights and/or weekends, when work demands warrant
     

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing       
  • Driver’s License Requirement:  A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with 0 demerit points accumulated  
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
