The Opportunity

We are hiring Security Guards / Security Officers to support safety and security across multiple sites, including a dynamic campus environment at Red Deer Polytechnic. This role is ideal for individuals who want meaningful work, professional structure, and the chance to be a trusted presence within the community.

You will respond confidently to situations, engage with the public, patrol facilities, support emergency procedures, and uphold site expectations with professionalism. Whether at a post-secondary campus or a general security assignment, your presence helps maintain a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Control access to buildings; issue passes and assist or escort visitors
  • Patrol assigned areas on foot or in vehicles to deter theft, vandalism, and safety risks
  • Monitor premises using security control‑room equipment and technology
  • Respond to alarms, incidents, and emergencies calmly and professionally
  • Enforce site regulations to maintain safety and resolve conflicts
  • Communicate effectively using radios, reporting systems, and incident documentation
  • Provide excellent customer service to students, staff, visitors, and the public
  • Support emergency protocols including fire alarms, threats, and evacuation procedures
  • Maintain a strong security presence while representing Commissionaires with integrity

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Valid Alberta Security License (required)
  • Valid Standard or Emergency First Aid (required)
  • Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Professional attitude, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond to situations appropriately
  • Physically able to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, and patrol for prolonged periods
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts including days, evenings, overnights, and weekends
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather
  • Class 5 (Non‑GDL) License with clean driver’s abstract (required for driving positions)

Assets:

  • Minimum one year security experience
  • Former RCMP or military service
  • Military family background
  • Education or background in law enforcement
  • Computer and technology proficiency (phones, reporting tools, security equipment)

Working Conditions

  • 8, 10, or 12‑hour shifts depending on site
  • Indoor and outdoor environments, including during inclement weather
  • Prolonged periods of walking, standing, or sitting
  • Dynamic and active assignments, including campus settings
  • Additional duties may be assigned based on site needs
