The QFS Summer Student will work as part of the Global QFS team to ensure the goals of the Global Research Innovation Safety Excellence (RISE) department are met. This position is responsible for specific QFS related projects as discussed with the lead.
The QFS Summer student will assist administration, coordination and implementation of projects. The QFS summer student will be working out of our Landmark Corporate Office in Edmonton, AB.
Support the Quality, Food Safety (QFS) team in executing specific short-term QFS-related projects as assigned by the project lead.
Collect, organize, analyze and report data relevant to QFS projects to support informed decision-making.
Prepare clear and accurate documentation, reports, and presentations for internal stakeholders.
Perform general administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, meeting scheduling, and preparation of QFS materials.
Assist with the coordination of project timelines, deliverables, and communication across departments involved in QFS initiatives.
Help implement QFS-related procedures, tools, or improvements under the supervision of QFS leadership including SharePoint, Redzone, etc.
Work closely with other team members across departments to support collaborative efforts and ensure alignment on project goals.
Follow and adhere to all given instructions including work procedures, Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices and safety requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
Educational background: 3rd or 4th year in a related program (science, agriculture, nutrition, biology related major etc.)
Working knowledge of laboratory techniques, terminology, equipment, and materials.
Mathematical/Statistical skills for use in the computation of test results and trend analyses, and knowledge of data processing.
Knowledge of HACCP/SQF/GFSI/FSMA/related food safety systems.
Proficient with Microsoft Office.
Self-directed, detail-oriented, and analytical thinking ability.
Ability to respond appropriately and promptly in pressure situations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize, efficiently utilize and coordinate resources.
Ability to work independently as well as strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain successful working relationships with cross-functional teams across the organization.
Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.
Work environment is in a pet food production facility office; the position works both in the office and production facility, with exposure to noise, odours, and fluctuating temperatures.
Ability to physically inspect company property and assets, to meet food safety requirements.
Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Extended hours of work as required.
Job duties require physical exertion, including the ability to manually lift to 10kg while using established safe lift procedures.
Exposure to a pet food production environment that includes dust, noise, odors, and/or fluctuating temperatures.
Travel to off-site locations may be required.
