Client Delivery within Global Wealth Management Technology is looking for a Technical Lead who is responsible for the design, build and deployment of technology solutions. This team is engaged in modernization some of the strategic applications in GWMT.  This role will be responsible for delivering a modern suite of apps for one of the wealth business lines, replacing a legacy system with a modern user interface, workflows and APIs integrating with multiple internal and external applications. Applications interfacing are a mix of inhouse and third-party applications.  If you are excited to work on a business-critical application suite that demands high quality ground-up development work in planning, designing, building and rolling out new application, this is the place for you. Reporting to the Senior Manager Development, the Technical Lead Technical Lead – Frontend will architect and build a brand-new, modern web application from the ground up using React and Node.js. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone who enjoys shaping technical direction, mentoring developers, and delivering high-quality, scalable products. You will play a key role in defining the frontend architecture, establishing engineering best practices, and collaborating closely with product, design, and backend teams to bring a greenfield application to life. You will be contributing to the development of world-class digital products and experiences touching millions of Scotiabank customers every day. Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

  • Lead the end-to-end frontend architecture and development of a new React-based web application
  • Design scalable, maintainable, and high-performance UI systems and component libraries
  • Define and implement best practices for code quality, testing, performance, and security
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers to translate wireframes and prototypes into polished user experiences
  • Work closely with backend engineers to design and integrate APIs
  • Establish CI/CD pipelines and build/release processes
  • Conduct code reviews and provide technical mentorship to frontend developers
  • Drive technical decision-making, including framework choices, libraries, and tooling
  • Ensure cross-browser compatibility, responsiveness, and accessibility compliance
  • Proactively identify risks and propose solutions to technical challenges
  • Work with Delivery Leads and BSA’s to articulate efforts and compile estimates

 

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

 

  • 10+ years of progressive experience working in the IT industry in roles like developer and team lead in software development, with a strong focus on frontend engineering
  • Familiarity with current industry best practices and secure coding
  • Analyze and oversee the team’s development efforts working towards successful code delivery
  • Solid experience with RESTful API integration
  • Expert level experience in the following technologies: Javascript / ReactJS / NodeJS / Next JS
  • Deep knowledge of HTML / CSS / SASS (BEM, OOCSS, SMACSS, CSS3 Animations, Semantic HTML)
  • Experience with state management libraries (Redux, Zustand, React Querry etc)
  • Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing (Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility, authentication and authorization flows (JWT, OAuth, SSO)
  • Experience with performance optimization, lazy loading and frontend scalability
  • Proven experience leading technical initiatives or mentoring developers
  • Experience of designing and building modern UI applications from scratch
  • Demonstrated high level of analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Working experience in JIRA/Confluence
  • Experience with System Design and work independent of Architect on creating pragmatic solutions to technical problems, working with the scrum team.
  • Strong understanding of Wealth / Lending business is an asset
  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
