Financial Reporting Officer (18-Month Contract)

Location: Toronto, Hybrid (1 day in office)
Language: Strong written and verbal English communication required
Duration: 12-month contract
Compensation: $40–$43 per hour
Reporting to: Manager of Financial Analysis & Reporting
Background Check Requirement: Satisfactory Criminal Record Check required

About the Opportunity

Are you a CPA who enjoys hands-on financial reporting and thrives in collaborative, fast-moving environments? This 12-month contract opportunity sits within a large public-sector organization and plays a key role in supporting financial stewardship, leadership reporting, and operational decision-making.

You’ll partner closely with the Assistant Controller and internal stakeholders across finance and operations, contributing directly to financial statements, audit readiness, and budgeting activities. This role offers stability, continuity, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working in a remote-first environment with occasional on-site collaboration when needed.

Your Responsibilities

  • In this role, you’ll support the preparation of financial statements and year-end working papers for external auditors.

  • You’ll contribute to quarterly reporting and financial analysis for leadership and internal stakeholders.

  • You’ll prepare budgeting and planning materials, including staffing and operational forecasts.

  • You’ll oversee financial transactions and account management to ensure reporting accuracy.

  • You’ll develop management reports to support informed decision-making.

  • You’ll partner with internal teams and Managers on reporting needs, systems, and financial processes.

Skills and Qualifications

  • CPA designation required

  • 4–6+ years of experience across financial reporting and accounting

  • Hands-on exposure to audit support, working papers, and close processes

  • Experience in public sector, not-for-profit or Big 4 environments preferred but not required

  • ERP experience helpful (PeopleSoft ideal, not a dealbreaker)

  • Strong Excel skills required

  • Well-balanced skillset across reporting, accounting, and analysis
