Your Opportunity Stantec's Geotechnical and Materials Engineering Team is seeking a Materials Field Testing Co-op to join our team in the Dartmouth, NS office. The position is an 8-month full-time opportunity from May to December 2026.

To be eligible for an 8-month term, your co-op sequence must currently accommodate a work term of this length. If you are unsure, please consult your co-op student advisor.

Your Key Responsibilities The successful candidates will demonstrate initiative and will excel under minimal supervision. You will be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and skilled in delivering on your commitments. You will work with a team of engineers/scientists and other technologists/technicians performing general materials testing and inspection services in the field. In brief, duties include but are not limited to:

  • Travel to sites, collection of samples

  • Construction Quality control/Quality assurance testing (Concrete, Soils, Asphalt)

  • Other general field related duties

  • Reporting: You will be required to regularly complete detailed field reports and submit them to the project manager.

  • Operations: You will be expected to support team operations and play an integral part in the promotion of our health and safety culture, client relations, equipment and resources maintenance and management, and other related duties will be expected.

Your Capabilities and Credentials - We are looking for an energetic team player who enjoys working with a team of engineering staff in providing superior service to our valued clients in Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada. The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Effective communication skills (computer, written, oral).

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.

  • Initiative and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • Valid Driver's License, access to their own personal vehicle and must be willing to provide a driver's abstract for review.

  • Ability to travel as this position may require traveling and working outside of HRM and Nova Scotia.

  • The ability to carry out moderate lifting will be required.

Education and Experience- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent (completed 2nd year of engineering degree)

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
