About the Opportunity

Our client in the non-profit and community health sector is seeking a General Ledger Accountant to support a busy Finance team during a critical year-end and audit period. This contract role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who thrives in high-volume environments and enjoys solving complex reconciliation challenges.

 

You will work closely with a small, collaborative finance team and partner with program managers across a wide portfolio of funded initiatives. Your work will directly support financial accuracy, audit readiness, and accountability across multiple programs, helping ensure vital community services remain well-supported and compliant.

Your Responsibilities

• In this role, you’ll prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and recurring adjustments with proper documentation.
• You’ll perform detailed general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
• You’ll reconcile program and project financial activity to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy across multiple funded accounts.
• You’ll support month-end and year-end close activities, including variance analysis and working paper preparation.
• You’ll analyze budget and program variances, preparing summaries and explanations for non-finance stakeholders.
• You’ll assist with audit preparation, funding reconciliations, and internal financial reporting.
• You’ll identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting accuracy, and reconciliation efficiency.

 

Skills and Qualifications

• 2 to 3+ years of progressive experience in general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Bachelor's Degree or College Diploma in Accounting is required
• Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, journal entries, and GAAP principles.
• Hands-on experience with Sage 300 or a comparable ERP system.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and lookup functions.
• Strong analytical ability with confidence explaining financial information to non-finance partners.
• Experience in not-for-profit or program-based accounting is an asset.
