Location: Vancouver, BC, On-site (5 days per week)
Language: English, fluent written and verbal communication required
Duration: 18-month maternity leave contract

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established professional services organization in British Columbia, is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support a busy litigation practice on an 18-month maternity leave contract. This role offers the opportunity to join a collaborative, high-performing team that values professionalism, precision, and strong working relationships.

In this role, you’ll work closely with litigation lawyers and legal professionals, playing a critical part in keeping files organized, deadlines on track, and clients well supported. Your work will directly contribute to the smooth progression of litigation matters, with some exposure to Wills and Estates and estate litigation files along the way.

Your Responsibilities

  • You’ll manage litigation files from opening to closing, maintaining accurate file organization and bring-forward systems.
  • You’ll coordinate court dates, discoveries, and examinations, liaising with court registries as needed.
  • You’ll prepare, format, and arrange court filings, applications, pleadings, and legal correspondence.
  • You’ll manage lawyers’ calendars, emails, and active file lists to ensure deadlines are met.
  • You’ll liaise with clients, opposing counsel, registries, paralegals, and internal team members regarding file progress.
  • You’ll assist with monthly billings, time entry, and general administrative support to keep files moving efficiently.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a Legal Assistant, with a strong focus on litigation.
  • Completion of a Legal Administrative Assistant program or equivalent experience.
  • Solid understanding of BC civil litigation practices and the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules.
  • Experience with insurance defense, estate litigation, or probate processes is considered an asset.
  • Strong technical skills, including Microsoft Office, Adobe, BC Online, and MYLTSA.
  • Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.
